Scarves Warm Hearts

Something wonderful happens in cities in Canada and the U.S. every year. It
started long ago with a surprise! On a very cold day in a Canadian city,
fourteen statues of great heroes... wore scarves?!
每一年冬天，加拿大跟美國很多城市都會發生美妙的事。最開始是很多年前一個寒冷的冬日，加拿大城市的14座偉人雕像，脖子上都圍了圍巾。

The colorful scarves were handmade. Each scarf had a message that warmed
people's hearts. And the scarves were free!
這些色彩繽紛，手工做的圍巾都可以免費拿取，上面還有溫馨的小紙條。

Some people took pictures of the statues that day. They posted the pictures
online. Many people liked the idea of leaving scarves for anyone to take!
They called it "scarf bombing."
有人拍了雕像的照片並放到網路上。很多人喜歡用這樣的方式送愛心圍巾!

So who scarf bombed the statues? Some kind students did!
The kindness didn't stop. Lots of people need scarves. So scarf bombers in
many cities make scarves all year. They're making hats, gloves, jackets, and
blankets right now! Other people help by giving the scarf bombers yarn.
很多人需要圍巾，於是很多不同城市的人一整年都在做圍巾，搞不好現在正在做帽子、手套、外套跟被子。也有人提供他們的毛線，讓善意一直傳下去。

When cold weather comes, they make scarf bombs. They put the things they made
on fences, benches, and many other places.
天氣很冷的時候，他們會把圍巾跟其他做的物品綁在欄杆、長椅跟其他的地方。

Small acts of kindness are important. Leaving warm scarves for people makes
them happy. And it brings people together!

Saving Blue Crabs and Their Mangrove Forests

Women in one part of Ecuador love blue crabs. The crabs' top shell is blue.
But their bottom shell is orange. Eight legs are red. Their claws are white!
How colorful!
厄瓜多的女性喜歡藍螃蟹。這種螃蟹有藍色的殼，橘色的腹部，牠們的八隻腳是紅色的，螯是白色的。

The delicious blue crabs are food for the women's families. Selling crabs
gives the women jobs. Blue crabs are very important to them. They sing about
the crabs!

The crabs live in mangrove forests. They eat mangrove leaves. But many
mangrove trees were cut down. Their home became much smaller. Then there
weren't many crabs.

The crabs help the women. Now the women help the crabs. The women follow
strict rules.

the first time, the crabs find mates. During the second time, the crabs move
into bigger shells.

mangrove trees too. Now there are more blue crabs!

the crabs too. Now their children and grandchildren will enjoy both!

Pet Food on the Move

Do you like to go grocery shopping? It's easy for many people to do this.
Then they go home and cook.
你喜歡去超市買東西嗎？很多人可以很容易做到，然後回家煮飯。

But some older people and people with disabilities need help. It's hard for
them to shop. Some of them don't have much money. Some can't leave their
homes. It's hard for them to cook, too.
但是有一些老人跟身障者需要幫助。他們不方便去購物，有一些沒那麼多錢或者沒辦法離開家，煮飯也有困難。

In many places in the U.S., a program makes food for them. Volunteers take
the food to them.
美國有個送餐計畫在很多地方為老人、身障者做飯，志工再帶去給他們。

Some of these people also have cats or dogs. They love their pets very much.
Their pets make them less lonely. But pet food costs a lot of money. Bags of
pet food are heavy!

In one city, some programs are working together. They're getting pet food for
these people! Now volunteers take food AND pet food to them. This helps the
people and their pets be healthy and happy.

Man Runs Across Africa

Marathons are very long runs. They're about 42 kilometers long! Many people
never run a marathon. But one British man ran 385 marathons in less than a
year!
馬拉松是一種長跑的運動，全程差不多42公里。很多人從來沒有跑過馬拉松，但有一個人一年內跑了385場馬拉松!

This British man ran in Africa. He ran from the most southern place to the
most northern place. He ran through 16 countries.
這位英國男子從非洲的最南端跑到最北部，一共經過16個國家。

He had some problems during the run. Somebody stole his money and phone. He
got very sick from eating some bad food. In the Sahara desert, he ran in
sandstorms and... snowstorms!

The man ran for two charities. One charity helps young people who have no

No Cows Needed for This Butter

Mmm … Toast and butter, yum! Most butter is made from cow's milk. But a
company has a new way to make butter.
烤土司加奶油真好吃! 大多數的奶油是用牛奶做的，現在有一間公司有新的方式做奶油。

It uses carbon dioxide and other gases that come from the air. It heats the
gases. That makes the fat for the butter. No cows are needed!
這間公司加熱空氣中的二氧化碳跟其他氣體，做出奶油中的脂肪，完全不需要乳牛。

But why are they making butter this way? Well, cows create a lot of
pollution. They belch methane. Methane is a bad gas. It makes the Earth
warmer. Cows also need lots of land to live on and water to drink. Using
cow's milk for butter is bad for the Earth.
為什麼要這麼做呢?因為牛會排出甲烷
，讓地球暖化。養牛也需要很多的土地跟水。用牛奶做奶油並不環保。

The company says its butter is a much better butter for the Earth. It doesn't
make bad gases. It doesn't need land. It uses very little water.
