Giant Parrot

Hi everyone! Welcome! Make yourselves comfortable, it's time for another
story!

Everyone knows that many, many, many years ago, there were lots of giant
animals walking around the earth, right? Like dinosaurs!
以前，地球有很多很大的動物.像是….恐龍

When you think of dinosaurs, what's the first thing that comes into your
head? 一提到恐龍，你會想到甚麼? ………Woah!!!! Yeah! Something like that,
right?

But what if I told you there was another animal that lived many, many years
ago that sounded more like this?

Heh! What did that sound like to you? 剛那個聲音像甚麼?.........

Yep! That was a parrot! 那是鸚鵡!..........

But this… This parrot wasn't just any parrot, ya know? Oh no...
這隻鸚鵡超大的This was a giant parrot!…………

One day, special scientists who dig up and study super old stuff found some
big bones! !

From these bones they know that many millions of years ago, there used to be
giant parrots! 科學家從挖出的化石知道…很久以前有一種巨型的鸚鵡!

They named the giant parrot… SQUAWKZILLA… Cool name, right?

Squawkzilla was the biggest parrot ever… probably too big to fly.........
Ahem! 我剛說牠不會飛………!

Okay. The giant parrot weighed about 7 kilograms, 大概有7公斤重. About the
same as a bowling ball!

Squawkzilla was also about 1 meter tall, meaning it could reach a grown-up's
belly button!

高度大概1公尺...嗯嗯…差不多到大人肚臍的位置!

Driverless Cars - Cool or Spooky?

Hi, Everyone! One time in Kaohsiung, I saw a bus. 我在高雄看過一種小巴士…
the little bus drove around for a few minutes and …… WAIT, Wait, wait! This
is a cool story! … I promise!

The bus had NO driver!!

YEAH! I'm not joking! It was an electric-powered bus … without a
driver!用電腦來控制的

Maybe someday … ALL of our cars and buses won't need drivers! They will have
a computer driver!

In English, we call cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles, "vehicles." Taiwan
has a lot of vehicles!

Some people like to drive … they think driving is fun. But I really don't
like driving … Driving makes me feel nervous! 有些人喜歡開車，但我會緊張 In
Taiwan we have so many vehicles…Every time I drive my car … um … I feel a
little scared!

So, I'm happy to hear about cars that don't have drivers! These vehicles have
a super smart computer … and the computer is the driver!

Computers are getting smarter and smarter …. and in the future, maybe every
vehicle … every car, bus, or truck … will have a computer driver!

Just imagine! Your car can take you to school … with no driver! Just get in,
put on your seatbelt, maybe do your homework … or watch a video on the way
to school. 坐這種車去上學，也許還可以在車上打電動、看影片

I think that sounds great! 這真的太棒了！

BUT …. Vehicles with no drivers need to be 100% safe, right? What if the
computer driver makes a mistake? HMM… what do you think? Is a computer
driver scary … or cool?

Well, I think it sounds pretty cool! BUT … I'm always going to wear my
seatbelt … even if my computer driver is super smart!

Pepper the Robot

Hey, kids!

Pepper: Hi there. My name is Pepper. How are you?

Hey Pepper. I'm fine, thanks! Isn't Pepper great? She can do lots of cool

Pepper: I can offer help... remember faces... and also tell jokes.

Have you ever seen a robot? 看過機器人嗎？ Well, even if you haven't, you
might soon! Pepper the robot is being used as a helper at some companies,
shops, and hospitals!

HSR to Yilan

I'm taking the HSR today! 我今天要搭高鐵。

The H.S.R. … the "H" means "high"... the "S" means "speed" and the "R" means
"rail"… the High Speed Rail!

I can take the express. HSR train and go from Taipei to Kaohsiung in about
90 minutes, or I can take the HSR train that stops at more cities...I can go
to Tainan or Taoyuan or Jiayi or Hsinchu!

But guess what? One day... I'm going to take the HSR to Yilan!
以後也可以搭高鐵去宜蘭喔！

The Taiwan government says they will extend the HSR to Yilan!
政府說會把高鐵的鐵路，延伸到宜蘭。

It will take about 10 years... but when it's finished... it will only take
about 15 minutes to travel from Taipei to Yilan!
蓋鐵路可能需要10年，但完工之後，從台北到宜蘭只要15分鐘！

Wow! 15 minutes? That's really fast! Today, we can drive through the
Hsuehshan Tunnel (雪山隧道)… and if we're lucky... maybe get to Yilan in one
hour. 現在開車從雪隧到宜蘭只要一個小時。

But usually, there are so many cars... oh... it can take forever! One time it
took us three hours! 但有一次我開車走雪隧，花了三小時才到宜蘭... ahhhh! It
was so boring.

I'm so glad that someday we can take the HSR to Yilan. There are so many
beautiful things in Yilan... beaches, hot springs... it would be so nice to
get on the HSR and be there in 15 minutes! I can't wait!

Robot Animals

Do you like animals? And how about robots? 你喜歡動物嗎? 那機器人呢？They're
pretty cool too, right?

Then I think you're going to love robot animals! 那你應該也會愛機器動物吧？！

Yeah! There are robots that look like animals! Some of them even act like
animals! And some even do very important jobs!
有的機器動物的動作，很像真的，有些還負責重要的工作！

Like the robot dolphin at one zoo. They can swim like real dolphins and
people can swim with them too.

People can have fun with dolphins without keeping them in a tank!
像動物園裡面的機器海豚，會陪人游泳，也可以跟牠們玩得很開心！

There are robot dogs and cats too! And in one care home, they are friends to
the people who live there! 還有機器狗跟機器貓，會陪住養老院的人。

In one park they have a robot sloth! The sloth has a camera to watch the
animals and the plants, and to check what's going on in the park.
另外在一座公園，有機器樹懶記錄園區裡面動物和植物的情形。

But what about in the sea? Well, there's also a robot squid.
而在大海裡面有機器烏賊喔！It takes photos of the animals and coral in the
sea. It's soft so it can't hurt anything and it even swims like a squid!
負責拍攝海裡的動物跟珊瑚，因為軟軟的，並不會傷害其他海洋生物，而且還游的像真的烏賊！

Isn't that cool? There are so many different robot animals doing interesting
things and even helping us!
