Four Taiwanese employees of Foxconn's factory in Zhengzhou, a major Apple
supplier, are under investigation in China on suspicion of accepting bribes
and embezzling funds.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) confirmed the news following media
reports.

According to media reports, the Taiwanese employees were accused of
accepting bribes in their capacity as non-state officials, with two of them
also facing allegations of embezzlement.

However, Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) said earlier this week that
the case was "quite strange."

While the Zhengzhou police arrested and detained the four employees on
charges equivalent to Taiwan's "breach of trust" offense, Taiwan-based
Foxconn has asserted that the company has suffered no losses and that the
employees have not harmed the company's interests in any way, the MAC said on
Oct. 9.

The MAC said it does not rule out the possibility that the case is connected
to corruption and abuse of power by a small number of Chinese security
officials.

The strengthening of seasonal northeasterly winds has been helping to bolster
Taiwan's wind power generation.

According to Taipower on Friday, instantaneous wind power generation had
remained above 2 gigawatts (GW) since 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

Taipower officials said that with that kind of output generated from
Wednesday to Friday, it was enough to supply the daily electricity needs of
nearly 10 million households.

Renewable energy has seen rapid growth in Taiwan, with government and private
sector support in recent years, the company said, citing for example that
Taiwan has so far completed the installation of 372 offshore wind turbines.

A special election on Sunday will allow voters to decide whether to recall
Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang.

The Keelung City Election Commission said the total number of eligible voters
for the upcoming recall vote is 310,797, and that a threshold of 77,700 valid
"agree" votes are needed for it to pass.

The election will be held tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with 283 polling
stations set up across the seven administrative districts in the northern
port city.

A campaign to recall Hsieh, a member of the KMT who has been in office since
2022, was initiated in March 2024 following a dispute over the changing of
the operator of Keelung E-Square Mall.

The recall campaign also alleges that Hsieh has failed to fulfill his
campaign pledges and abused power.
