Hi everyone! It's story time!

Uh-oh! It's raining!

下大雨耶! Ohhh no! Rain, rain go away, come again another day!

…………….Huh? It worked? …………….And now it's sunny again?! Wow! That

was fast!

This sure is some strange weather we're getting…真是很奇怪的天氣! But, hey,

do you know what days like this are good for? …………. That's right!

Rainbows!

Have you ever seen a rainbow? 你們有沒有看過彩虹?

Rainbows are sooo beautiful! They're made up of seven, that's right, seven

different colors!!

Can you name them all? 有七個顏色喔! Okay, let's do it together…

Hmmm… let's see… There's red… like this tasty apple here……………

mmm, mmm, oh, right, and orange… like, well, an orange…

then there's yellow… like a mouse's favorite, …. cheeeese,

a rainbow also has green… like the trees,

and blue… like the sky on a sunny day, and uhhh... let's see... Well,

that's five colors... we still need two more to make a rainbow…

Oh! Then we have indigo and violet.

Do you know what colors indigo and violet are?

Indigo and violet look a lot like purple…很像紫色, 有點像茄子only indigo

is a like a dark purple, and violet, well, violet is a kind of light purple.

Now you may have seen all the colors of the rainbow on a striped flag,

這個旗子呢, 它是代表多元化跟支持. The flag represents diversity and support

and they've been seen all over the world!

Now, there's a also a story that says at the end of a rainbow, if you can

find it, there's a pot of gold! 有聽說彩虹盡頭有一罐金子嗎? 就是gold!

( 真的假的? / Is it true?)

Is the story true? I don't know. But I will definitely be keeping an eye out

for rainbows from now on!

1) Rainbow彩虹. 彩虹通常都在下雨之後出現,所以這個字前半部就是rain雨.

Rainbow有七種顏色, Rainbows have seven colors.

2) Color 顏色. We've just learned many color words, like green, blue and

red, and also the color purple.

3) Purple紫色. 什麼東西是紫色的呢？對,茄子! 茄子是紫色Eggplants are

purple.

4) 那金色的怎麼說? 金色gold. 也就是黃金, a pot of gold 就是一罐黃金. Do

An Arctic Fox's Amazing Journey

Hey, what's up, everyone?

Oh, excuse me just a moment. I'm just going to have a glass of water. ……
Ahhh! Hmmm… my ice cubes are almost gone. 冰塊幾乎沒了...

Ice melts when it's warm, right? And when ice melts, it turns into water.
冰融化了變成水 對不對?

And you know where there's lots of ice... 你們知道哪裡都是冰嗎? The North and
South Poles! 北極跟南極!

But did you know, the ice, just like in my glass of water, is melting?...
That's right, 那邊的冰正在融化了.

This has an effect on some animals too.

Like, did you hear the story about the young arctic fox?
你有看到一篇報導是講一隻小白狐.

She traveled from Norway in Northern Europe, all the way to Canada in North
America! 3,500 kilometers!
That's a long way! 從挪威到加拿大! Wow! 真的是好遠喔!

The little fox walked on ice and crossed frozen seas to get there!
牠走在結冰的海上! Brr!

I hope she had some nice warm clothes... maybe a hat... 希望牠有記得穿外套,
戴帽子... Wait, do foxes wear hats? Ha! Of course not.

They have their own thick, natural fur coat to keep them nice and warm.
狐狸當然不會戴帽子拉! 牠的毛夠溫暖. Good job, little fox!

But why did the little fox leave home? And why did the fox go so far away?

Scientists think it's because the fox's home is changing. It's melting, just
like my ice cubes.. And It's melting because the earth is warming up… and
that's a bad thing… it means animals are losing their homes 地球暖化
有些動物的家不見了.

But there is something we can do... We can help by saving energy! So when
you're not watching TV, turn it off! Leaving the room? Hit that light switch!

And when you throw away trash, please remember to recycle! 記得要省電.

Animal Migration

Have you ever had to move house? 你們有搬家過嗎?
Well, just like people, lots of animals move house too! Some of them do it
every year, sometimes a few times a year. Sometimes they even move really far
away! 很多動物 每年會搬家 有時候搬很遠 Yup. This is called migration.
動物遷徙
It happens on land …… in the sea…. and up in the air. 陸地、海洋
跟天空都有
Why do some animals migrate? 動物為甚麼搬家呢? Well, that's a great question!
There are actually many reasons it happens.
Sometimes it's to find somewhere warmer in the cold winters, or escape the
heat in the summer. Phew! … Or it could be because of food. …… Oh! Excuse
me…
In the fall, a type of fish called salmon, 鮭魚 swim from the sea all the way
up the river to lay eggs and have baby salmon. 秋天的時候 ,
鮭魚還會從大海游去河裡生小Baby哦 The babies will follow the river back to the
sea. 然後小魚也是會從河裡慢慢地游到大海 Then a few years later, they make the same
journey their mommy and daddies did to have their own baby salmon! 幾年後
跟父母以前一樣 牠們回到河裡生自己的小Baby! This is called the salmon run!
........ Huh? Run? 等等 Do fish run? 魚會跑步嗎? ……. Haha! 當然沒有! Of course not!

Now there used to be lots of salmon, but because of people, and all of our
dirty trash, we're destroying the homes of salmon and lots of other animals.

1) Migrate 遷移 。animal migration就是動物大遷徙 So why do animals migrate
from one place to another? There are many reasons. 有很多理由動物會想要遷徙

Be Nice to the Sea Turtles!

Hi everybody! I love swimming and snorkeling! 我喜歡游泳還有浮潛 Snorkeling is
great … why? Well, because I can see and swim … like a fish!

You can see so many beautiful things in the ocean around Taiwan … pretty
fish … colorful coral … and my favorite ……………………. SEA TURTLES!
海裡可以看到魚珊瑚還有海龜

I know about a wonderful little island near Pingtung in southern Taiwan -the
water is so clean 南臺灣有個地方水很乾淨… and many people like to go there
for swimming and snorkeling 很多人會去浮潛.-- That's right! The island is
called XIAOLIUCHIU! XiaoLiuChiu is great! But can you guess my favorite thing
about that island? Sea Turtles!

You can see sea turtles … see sea turtles in the sea!

But some people are not very nice to the ocean! They throw garbage into the
sea! 有些人會丟垃圾到海裡. That's not cool! And some people are not so nice
to the sea turtles. They touch them and even step on them!
有人會摸海龜或是踩他們- HEY! -That's rude! 這樣很沒禮貌耶

We should never throw garbage in the ocean, right? The poor sea turtles might
eat the garbage! They could get sick! Oh No!
我們不應該丟垃圾到海裡啦，海龜吃了會生病的

Let's be nice to the Xiaoliuchiu sea turtles, ok? And let's take care of
XiaoLiuChiu Island. We can swim near the sea turtles … and we can look at
them… but we never touch them! OK?

921 Earthquake

Narrator: 地震! Hurry up, take cover! ………Phew … is everyone all right?
Thank goodness everyone is all right. 我最不喜歡地震了。 And that was a big
one!
But it still wasn't as big as the 921 Earthquake.
Have you heard of the 九二一大地震? The 921 Earthquake was one of the biggest
earthquakes to ever hit Taiwan.
That earthquake happened on September 21, 1999.
That means it happened exactly twenty years ago. 剛好20年前發生
It was a magnitude 7.3 earthquake, which means it was a very, very strong
earthquake!
It was was so strong that it knocked down power lines in Taiwan,
然後全台灣就大停電! There was a blackout!
The blackout lasted a long time. There was no electricity for days.
我們過了好多天都沒有電，都停電了During the day people could not turn on their
fans or air conditioners, so everyone was very sweaty under the hot sun.
晚上沒有電，白天也沒辦法開電扇或冷氣，大家都熱得汗流浹背!
And at night, there was no electricity for lights, so everything was very
dark.
Sadly, more than two-thousand people were also killed in the earthquake.
And thousands of buildings were damaged.

…….Uh oh, aftershock!........
Everyone still ok? That was just an aftershock. That is when the ground
shakes again after an earthquake.
Hopefully there won't be any more aftershocks. 拜託不要再來餘震了!
Anyway, the 921 Earthquake was a terrible thing to happen, but experts are
studying how we can be ready for other earthquakes in the
future.未來如果我們能預測地震的話， 我們就可以先準備了

And hopefully, we will be!
