Ahh! Finally! I made it…. Wooo!

Climbing mountains is fun, but it is hard work! 爬山好玩也好累! 

While climbing is a lot of fun... I wouldn't want to do it every day!

But, what about people who live on mountains, hills, and steep roads?
住山上或陡坡上 怎麼辦?That must be tiring.

Do any of you live on a steep street? Maybe your school is at the top of a hill? 

你們家或學校在山上嗎? That's tough, but you'll grow up with really strong legs!

那腿一定很強壯! Like… superhero legs!……………. You'll be able

to run faster than a train, ……………. and jump over houses…... and…….

Okay, maybe not… But people who have to climb and walk on hills and steep
roads will still be in good shape. 常常爬坡的人會很健康, right? It's good exercise!

全世界最陡的街在哪裡? Well, it used to be in a country called New Zealand!
For 32 years they had a street that everyone thought was the steepest in the world!

紐西蘭有最陡的街已經32年了..

But then on the other side of the world, a country called Wales said their
street was even steeper! And it was!

1) Steep 陡峭的，a steep hill 陡峭的山坡，steeper 更陡. People in Wales said
their street was steeper 威爾斯人說他們的街道更陡,比起紐西蘭的更陡. It's the
steepest street in the world 那是全世界最陡的街道! Steepest 最陡峭的。So you
see, we have 3 words here: steep, steeper, and steepest.

2) Mountain高山。我家住在山上 I live on the mountain. 我很喜歡爬山 I love to
climb mountains.

3) Climb爬， 我們爬到山頂上We climbed to the top of the mountain. It was
tough 很不簡單呢!

4) Tough 困難的。Climbing high mountains is tough, and you need to be in good
shape 攀登高山是很難的，需要身體狀況很好。In good shape 就是狀況很好。

Ten-Year-Old Rock-Climbing Queen

Hey, everybody!

Rock climbing … mountain climbing … rock climbing … mountain climbing …

HMMM … is rock climbing the same as mountain climbing?

NO!

Rock climbing is using ropes to climb up a rock! It's like climbing up a wall
--- climbing up a rock wall!

Lots of people like to climb mountains 很多人都喜歡爬山…… even some kids
like to climb mountains!! 甚至小朋友也喜歡

But rock climbing?那攀岩呢？ Kids don't go rock climbing, right?
小孩子不會去攀岩，對不對

Oh, really … well … a ten-year-old can't climb the most famous super crazy
rock in America, right? 10歲小孩不可能去最有名的一塊大石頭攀岩，對不對？

She did! Really?? … wow!

El Capitan is a crazy rock in America! It's … super steep.它超陡的 No,
wait! It's super, super, super, super, SUPER steep! It's a wall! A rock wall!

The youngest person in the world to climb that famous rock in America … is a
10-year-old girl!

Her name is Selah and she climbed a rock called "El Capitan."

So … is Selah Spiderman? How can she climb a rock wall? ---- For rock
climbing, you need ropes.

Selah and her dad used ropes to climb up the rock wall … it took them FOUR
DAYS! Selah和爸爸花了整整四天就爬上去Yeah!

One…Two…Three...Four days! They had to eat on the wall … and even sleep on

921 Earthquake

Narrator: 地震! Hurry up, take cover! ………Phew … is everyone all right?
Thank goodness everyone is all right. 我最不喜歡地震了。 And that was a big
one!
But it still wasn't as big as the 921 Earthquake.
Have you heard of the 九二一大地震? The 921 Earthquake was one of the biggest
earthquakes to ever hit Taiwan.
That earthquake happened on September 21, 1999.
That means it happened exactly twenty years ago. 剛好20年前發生
It was a magnitude 7.3 earthquake, which means it was a very, very strong
earthquake!
It was was so strong that it knocked down power lines in Taiwan,
然後全台灣就大停電! There was a blackout!
The blackout lasted a long time. There was no electricity for days.
我們過了好多天都沒有電，都停電了During the day people could not turn on their
fans or air conditioners, so everyone was very sweaty under the hot sun.
晚上沒有電，白天也沒辦法開電扇或冷氣，大家都熱得汗流浹背!
And at night, there was no electricity for lights, so everything was very
dark.
Sadly, more than two-thousand people were also killed in the earthquake.
And thousands of buildings were damaged.

…….Uh oh, aftershock!........
Everyone still ok? That was just an aftershock. That is when the ground
shakes again after an earthquake.
Hopefully there won't be any more aftershocks. 拜託不要再來餘震了!
Anyway, the 921 Earthquake was a terrible thing to happen, but experts are
studying how we can be ready for other earthquakes in the
future.未來如果我們能預測地震的話， 我們就可以先準備了

Too Bright for Fireflies!

Hey everybody!

Do you think fireflies are pretty? 你覺得螢火蟲漂亮嗎？ I do! I love
fireflies … I like to watch them at night!

Taiwan has lots of very pretty fireflies. They are so beautiful! Fireflies
shine … like stars! 螢火蟲一閃一閃的 …好像天上的星星

Sometimes, I go to Maoli to see fireflies … or Kaohisung or Pingtung … I go
all over Taiwan to see fireflies! 我全台灣都跑就是為了看螢火蟲

But we have a problem! There are not so many fireflies now!
現在的問題是，螢火蟲沒那麼多了...the fireflies are going away! Oh my!

It's very sad! I want to see LOTS of fireflies every year … not just one or
two …

So...why are fireflies saying 'bye bye'? 為甚麼螢火要離開我們呢

Maybe … because it's too bright! There are too many lights at night.

People like light. We use lots of light at night.

We have lights in our house, lights on our car, lights on the street, lights
in the park … everywhere has light at night!

But fireflies DON'T like light! 螢火蟲喜歡暗暗的，They need a dark, dark
night ... then they can shine like stars! 這樣他們才能像星星一樣閃閃發亮

Hmmm… Maybe people can turn off some lights. 也許我們應該關掉一些燈Maybe we
don't need so many lights at night. 晚上根本用不到這麼多燈， 對吧

Then ... maybe more fireflies will come back!

I hope so. I hope we can turn off more lights at night … so my firefly
friends can shine like stars!

Hi everybody! You know … I really like my bicycle!

I think bicycles are amazing! Bicycles are easy, fun, good for you, and good
for the air! No pollution! 騎車不會有空氣汙染的問題 I ride my bicycle, um,
everywhere! I ride my bicycle to go shopping, to the park, to meet my
friends, but I'm not a bicycle race winner! (laughs) Nope. I'm not like
Fiona!

Fiona is a young woman from Germany, and she won a super hard bicycle race!
She rode her bicycle a long way! 她是個年輕德國女生 .

Can you imagine riding your bicycle from Taipei to Kaohsiung? That's pretty
