Space Commander Wants More Women in Science

Today is International Women's Day: a day for women and girls everywhere,
from your mother, to your sister, to the President of Taiwan!

So we're going to look at one very special woman. Her name is Dr. Peggy
Whitson, and she's an astronaut.

Did you know only a quarter of all science jobs in the world are done by
women right now? That's not very many...

There's a place up in space called the International Space Station. It always
needs a "commander": a big boss in charge of keeping everyone safe.

In 2007, Dr. Whitson became the International Space Station's first ever
female commander!

Government Pays Families to Leave Tokyo

Do you live in a big city? If you do, you know it is crowded.
你住在大城市嗎？如果是，你應該知道它很擁擠。

More families are moving, and leaving the country for the city all the time.
They come from the countryside and from small towns.
越來越多家庭移動前往城市， 他們來自鄉下跟小鎮。

These families are looking for good jobs and good schools. They hope to find
these opportunities in big cities.

What's the biggest city in the world? It's Tokyo, Japan.

Tokyo, in Japan, has almost 40 million people.

This is a problem for Japan. Nobody wants to live in the countryside. But
Tokyo is too crowded.

Now the Japanese government is paying families to leave Tokyo. Each family
will be given one million yen for every child when they move to the
countryside.

Families take that money and move to the countryside. The money is nice, but
families understand the countryside has good things too.

There is more space to live. Plus, children can be closer to their families
who never left the countryside.

People Give Teddy Bears to Kids in Turkey

Hi students! Do you have a teddy bear? Teddy bears are really cute.

Maybe you don't have a teddy bear. Maybe you have a stuffed animal like a
rabbit or dog. Maybe it makes a sound when you touch it.
你有泰迪熊嗎？也許你沒有，也許你有其他的動物玩偶，像兔子或是狗狗？有的動物玩偶按下去還會發出聲音。

Teddy bears and other stuffed animals make kids feel happy. They make kids
feel safe, too.

There is a country named Turkey. In February, many people went to a soccer
game there. These people did something very, very nice.

They threw teddy bears and other stuffed animals onto the soccer field. They
also threw toys on the field. There were so many! It looked like it was

Floating Toilets for Floating Villages

Ahh! That's better… now I need to wash my hands!

Toilets are great! They take our germs away. That helps us to be healthy.

Without toilets, people can get very sick. But toilets cost money. Some
people don't have money for a toilet.

In Cambodia, there's a big lake. It's called the Tonle Sap. It's the biggest
fishing lake in the world!
柬埔寨的洞里薩湖，是全世界最大的漁業湖泊。

About 100,000 people live on the Tonle Sap. They live in floating villages.
They have houses and schools. But they do not have toilets. The lake water is
very dirty.

The people there are very poor. They use the lake water for everything. They

Cook Makes Cricket Ice Cream

I'm at an ice cream shop. I want one small scoop of ice cream. There are many
flavors! There's chocolate… strawberry… vanilla…

WAIT! What is that?! Crickets?! In ice cream?!
