70 Years on the Throne: Queen Elizabeth II

Not very many places in the world still have a king or a queen… but the
United Kingdom, or the U.K. for short, has a queen. And guess what? She's
been queen for 70 years!
英國女王已經在位70年！

Her name is Queen Elizabeth the Second… and today, April 21st, is her
birthday! She's now 95 years old! WOW! Happy Birthday, your Majesty!
女王伊莉莎白二世今天生日，她95歲了。

Queen Elizabeth the Second became queen in 1952.
女王伊莉莎白二世1952年登基，也就是民國四十一年。

No king or queen in the history of the UK has ever been king or queen for 70
years before!
英國歷史上從來沒有國王或女王在位這麼久。

That's a really long time… and in June this year, they will have a big party
in the U.K. to celebrate the Queen's 70 years… and to celebrate her
birthday. It will be a 4-day holiday!

First Black US Supreme Court Judge

A judge is a very important person. A judge makes decisions about important
things, like new laws.
法官要做出很多判決。

But there is one group of 9 judges in America called the 'Supreme Court'.
They make all the final decisions.
美國最高法院有九位大法官，負責做最終的判決。

They are the top judges in America.

For a long time, only men were Supreme Court judges. But that's not fair,
right? Women should be judges too!
有很長一段時間，大法官都是男性。這樣不公平，女性應該也可以擔任這個職位才對。

And, for a long time, most of the men were white people. But that's not fair
either!

America has white people, black people, Asian people, Native American
people… and lots of different people.

One-Legged Woman Runs 104 Marathons in 104 Days

I'm exhausted! Running is very tiring. I can't run longer than ten minutes. I
get too tired.
跑步好累！我只能跑十分鐘左右。

I don't know how people run marathons! A marathon is a kind of long-distance
race where the runners have to run about forty-two kilometers to finish the
race.
馬拉松通常要跑42公里。

That is a lot of running.

But do you know what's really impressive? Running one hundred and four
marathons… in one hundred and four days!
那你覺得什麼會令人覺得很厲害呢？那就是連續104天，跑104場馬拉松！

A woman named Jacky Hunt-Broersma did that. She ran one hundred and four
marathons in one hundred and four days.

And she did it with only one leg!
這位跑者叫做 Jacky Hunt-Broersma，是一位女士，而且她只有一條腿！

Jacky only has one leg because she had cancer, so doctors had to remove one
leg.
她因為癌症需要截肢。

But obviously, this did not slow her down!

First Native American in Space

Today, we are congratulating Nicole Mann, the first Native American to go to
space!

"Native Americans'" are the first people who ever lived in North America.

We have native people here in Taiwan too! In English, they are called
"indigenous".

In Chinese, they are called "Yuan Zhu Min."

A long time ago, there were many, many indigenous people here, but today,
only about 2% of Taiwan's people are indigenous.

And you know, that's the same as America!

Taiwan's Chen Nien-Chin is a boxer from Hualien. Because she has trained so
well, and has won so many times, people now call her "Taiwan's Boxing Queen"!
陳念琴是一個來自花蓮的拳擊手。她很強、贏過很多比賽，被大家叫做「拳擊女王」。

In 2016 she won a bronze medal at the Olympics, when she was only 19 years
old!
