Make Sure to Get Enough Sleep

Hey kids! Today I want to talk about a very important topic... sleep!

Sleep is really important. Many people don't get enough sleep.
睡眠很重要，但是很多人都睡太少。

How much sleep is enough?

Adults should get about eight hours of sleep. What about kids? Babies need a
lot of sleep. They need 12 to 16 hours of sleep. Wow! That's a lot of sleep.
大人需要睡八個小時，嬰兒要睡12到16個小時。

What about you guys?

Well, if you are 6 to 12 years old, you should get between 9 and 12 hours. If
you are a teenager, you should get from 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
6到12歲，應該要睡9到12小時。青少年應該要睡8到10個小時。

So, do you get enough sleep? If you don't, you should go to bed earlier.

I know you guys have to wake up early for school.
我當然知道你們要早起去上學。

There are many reasons why you should get enough sleep. First, it helps you
to stay healthy. Second, it helps you to think well.
充足的睡眠會讓你更健康，想事情也可以更清楚。

It's hard to think if you are tired, right?

There's also another interesting reason. People who don't get enough sleep
eat more food. That's because people who don't sleep long enough are
hungrier.
另外，睡不夠的人會吃得更多，因為他們更容易覺得餓。

So, if you sleep longer, you won't eat as much food. If you don't want to
feel so hungry all the time, you should sleep more.

Well, I think it's time for me to go. It's time for me to take a nap!

Sports Make You Tough

Hi, students! Do you play sports like basketball? Or maybe you like to play
baseball... tennis... or bowling!

If you do like to play sports, I have good news for you! Playing sports makes
people tougher. It also makes them try harder. And it makes them braver.

How do I know that? Well, some scientists at an American university told us.
First, they asked people about themselves. They asked them some questions to
see if they are hard workers. They also asked them if they are brave and if
they easily give up.

Then, the scientists looked at the answers to see which people were tough.
After that, they asked them if they play sports. They found that people who
play sports are tougher than those who don't play sports.

Some people think sports aren't important. But, now you know they are! Sure,
sports help you to be healthy. But they also help you to be tougher and
braver. And they make you more hard-working. If you play sports, you won't
give up easily. All of that is important in life.
運動不只讓你更健康，也讓你更勇敢、認真，這些在生活中都很重要。

So, I think sports could help you be more successful in life, too!

Rubber Ducks Race Through Chicago

Hi there! Today is the International Day of Charity.
今天是國際慈善日！

Charity is when people do things to help the causes they care about. Maybe
you want to look after sick people, or help stop global warming, or help save
animals…

Good causes around the world need all kinds of charity. Some people need help
making money, to pay for things that help people. This is called
"fundraising".
Fundraising 就是募款，有一些人會募款幫助其他的人。

Last month there was a big charity fundraising event in the USA, called the
"Chicago Ducky Derby"!
上個月，美國有一個大型募款活動。

Anyone who wanted to take part had to pay for a toy duck first.

75,005 toy ducks were thrown into the river, and they made lots of money for

New Doll Has a Hearing Aid

We use our ears to hear many things, like music, animals, and of course,
talking.

But many people cannot hear. So how do they talk with other people?
耳朵聽不見的人，要怎麼跟別人溝通呢？

One way is with sign language. People can use their hands to talk! For
example, they can touch their mouth to say thank you. They can wave their
hand to say goodbye. This is called "sign language".
其中一種方法是用手語！譬如說，用手碰嘴巴代表謝謝，揮手可以代表再見。

In fact, today is International Day of Sign Languages!
今天是國際手語日！

You can try it too. Put your hands on your heart. Do you know what this
means? This means "love". 把你的手放在心上，意思就是「愛」。

Another way people can hear is with a hearing aid. This is a machine people
put in their ears to help them hear. Many people use one.
另一種方法是用助聽器。

Now there is even a doll with a hearing aid! This doll was made to show kids
that it is okay to use a hearing aid.
現在有一個戴助聽器的娃娃，讓孩子們知道戴助聽器是很正常的。

Today is International Day of Sign Languages, so let's remember that people
don't all talk or hear in the same way. Some use sign language, some use a
hearing aid, but we all love to talk and be heard.

Learning to Climb Trees Like a Monkey

What does your gym teacher teach you? How to jump? How to run?

But, does your gym teacher teach you how to climb trees like a monkey?

Maybe this idea sounds silly to you, but there are people in a city in Spain
who go to a monkey tree-climbing class!

The teacher shows the students how to climb trees like monkeys!

People and monkeys are part of the same animal family, but we are not
monkeys, we are a kind of ape.

And the human ape is not very good at climbing trees.
