Oscar-winning Chinese composer and conductor Tan Dun is slated to cooperate with a Taiwan orchestra and percussion group in an upcoming concert in Taipei, in which he will present the Asian premiere of his concerto “The Wolf.”

Tan, the National Symphony Orchestra and the Ju Percussion Group will perform in the “Tan Dun and Friends” concert at the National Concert Hall this Friday.

The 57-year-old Tan is best known for his Oscar-winning score for the 2000 film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”

Tan said Monday in Taipei that “The Wolf” uses many unique double bass techniques to express everything from the crooning of pups to wolf fights and races.

In addition to “The Wolf” the groups will also perform Ravel’s “Boléro,” Debussy’s “Premiere Rhapsody” for clarinet and Tan’s percussion concerto “The Tears of Nature.”

The “Tan Dun and Friends” concert is a program under the Taiwan International Festival of Arts, which will run until April 12th, and features 17 shows from 10 countries.
