HTC Vive reveal

In collaboration with U.S. based game developer, Valve, HTC has revealed its own virtual reality (VR) headset called Vive. The headset will be available to consumers later this year along with a developer kit coming out this spring.

According to HTC, the Vive sports two 1200 x 1080 display screens that can handle up to 90 frames per second, giving images life-like quality and fluidity, and beating out Occulus Rift’s DK2 stats, a single 1080 pixel display that supports up to 75 frames per second.

HTC’s Vive also has motion tracking along with a Steam VR base station, meaning it can track your movements in a room that’s 4.5 meters by 4.5 meters (approximately 15 feet by 15 feet) big.

Valve and HTC are in San Francisco this week at the Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) to showcase their virtual reality headset.
