The Taipei City Zoo is calling on the public to show their support for giant panda Yuan Zai and one of her keepers – as the pair are in the running for two Giant Panda Zoo Awards.

The awards are an online prize dedicated to panda conservation founded by Belgian panda enthusiast Jeroen Jacobs.

The 18-month old Yuan Zai is vying for “Panda Personality of 2014¨ – while her keeper Chen Yu-yen, the director of the zoo’s Panda House, is competing in the category of “Human Panda Personality of 2014.”

Some 240 000 online ballots were cast during last year’s competition, in which Yuan Zai won the “Panda Personality of 2013.”

Voting will continue through January 18th on the Giant Panda Zoo website.

The now 50 kilogram Yuan Zai was born at the Taipei Zoo in July 2013 to her parents Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan.
