According to the results of a survey by hotel booking site Agoda, Taipei has beaten New York, Paris and London in an online survey as the world’s sixth-best spot to spend this New Year’s Eve.

The survey showed Taipei has garnered 7.94 percent of votes from over 7,000 respondents during the online voting, ahead of New York at seventh spot, Paris at eighth, London, ranked ninth.

Sydney ranked tenth.

Taipei City attracted more than one million visitors during its New Year’s Eve festivities last year.

Of the 24 destinations, Bangkok was selected as the most favored destination to ring in the New Year.

Taipei will welcome 2015 with a nearly four minute long fireworks display during a show that blends eastern and western elements and stresses the theme of “healing” following a year of ups and downs for Taiwan.

The Taipei Financial Center says a total of 23,000 rounds of fireworks will be lit at the Taipei 101 at the stroke of midnight on January 1.

Financial Center Spokesman Michael Liu says this year’s show is entitled “2015 iSee Taiwan” and highlights healing, innovation and festivity.

The fireworks display will be accompanied by Vivaldi’s violin concertos “The Four Seasons,” combined with Taiwan folk songs.

The NT$38 million fireworks show has been designed by France’s Groupe F.
