An animated series from Taiwan that highlights the issue of climate change has been nominated as the best 3D animated program for the Asian Television Awards.

“Weather Boy!”, produced by director Chiu Liwei at his Tainan-based Studio 2 Animation Lab, follows the adventures of a Taiwan schoolboy who, along with his meteorologist father, is taken by a time machine into the future.

There, they witness a series of cataclysmic events, leading them to realize that climate change is a deadly threat to Earth, and changes must be made.

Chiu says his studio aims to have the 13-episode series distributed overseas.

The series will compete for the award against Canadian-Singaporean collaboration “Rob the Robot”, and another Taiwan series, “The Little Chestnut of the Tang Dynasty”, among others.

A total of 239 works from 13 countries have been nominated in 38 categories at the Asian Television Awards, now in its 19th year.

The award ceremony is on Dec. 11th in Singapore.
