Local actor Kai Ko (Ko Chen-tung) has been arrested in Beijing during a drugs raid on an apartment owned by Jacee Chan, the son of movie star Jacky Chan.

According to China’s state-owned media, police seized more than 100-grams of marijuana during the raid.

Xinhua News Agency says both Ko and Chan admitted to using marijuana.

Chan is being reportedly being kept under “criminal detention” on suspicion of “allowing others to use drugs in his house” while Ko was put under “administrative detention” on lesser charges.

Chinese law allows for those arrested on suspicion of violating the country’s “social security management and punishment law” to be detained for up to 15 days, while those put under “criminal detention” can be kept up to 37 days.

Ko’s agency in Taiwan has confirmed the actor is being held in the Chinese capital in China on suspicion of illegal drug use.

Ko is vowing to become “a better person” following his arrest in Beijing last week on drugs charges.

Speaking on a CCTV broadcast – filmed at a detention center in the Chinese capital – Ko was seen crying and apologized for his actions, saying his drug use was a mistake and he had let down his family and friends.

The 23-year-old Ko won the Golden Horse for Best New Performer in 2011 for his role in the hit movie You Are the Apple of My Eye.
