The temperature in Taipei set a new high for this year when the mercury hit 37.8 degrees at 12:15 PM Sunday due to a strong high pressure system over the Pacific.

The previous record of 37.6 degrees was set on July 9th.

In neighboring New Taipei’s Banqiao District and Keelung City, temperature also soared to 36.6 degrees.

And it reached 36.5 degrees in Chiayi around noon Sunday.

Temperatures in Taitung County’s DaWu Township soared to 38.3 degrees on July 9 — the highest recorded anywhere islandwide so far this year.
