Doctor Who Watch Day 200: Yes, it has apparently been that long since Matt Smith’s tearful farewell on The Time of the Doctor, but on this fateful day, there has been another significant development in the Whoniverse. It turns out the BBC can be very generous when it wants to be. During the half time of the Germany vs Argentina World Cup final, the broadcaster premiered the first full trailer for season eight of Doctor Who, starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald.

The trailer finally offers us a significant look at Capaldi’s Doctor, who unfortunately doesn’t appear to speak with his native Scottish accent. Besides the TARDIS being aflame – something we saw in the previous teasers – there are shots of a Dalek eye stalk, robots, aliens, dinosaurs, the Doctor riding a horse in what appears to be a nightgown, the Paternoster Gang (Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint and Strax) and what appears to be a lot of danger and fun, as it always with the Doctor.

The Doctor also says we are going “into darkness” so does that mean we can expect a Doctor WhoStar Trek crossover involving Benedict Cumberbatch this season? Oh, a fangirl can dream.

Doctor Who returns world – or should I say universe – wide on August 23rd with the episode “Deep Breath”, written by showrunner Steven Moffat and directed by Ben Wheatley.
