Temperatures in Taitung County’s Da-Wu Township soared to 38.3 degrees yesterday — the highest recorded anywhere islandwide so far this year.
The Central Weather Bureau says the high was recorded at 11:41 AM and was due to a Foehn wind – that being warm and dry gusts that descend the sheltered side of mountains into valleys.
Meanwhile, temperatures soared to 38.1 degrees in Keelung at 11:44 AM and to 37.2 degrees in Taipei at 11:31 AM.
Both represented highs for the cities so far this summer.
