The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation has filed a request with the New Taipei District Court, seeking compensation for financial losses it says have resulted from reduced ridership since last months deadly knife attack.

The transit company is seeking 20 million NT in compensation from 21 year old Cheng Jie.

The request states that ridership has dropped by about 945,000  in the period of May 21st through 30th – after Cheng allegedly stabbed and killed four people and injured 24 others.

Cheng has been in custody at a detention center in Taipei since his arrest May 21st.

He has not hired a defense attorney and has not been visited by any family members since his arrest.
