Heavy rainfall caused flooding in parts of Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung yesterday.

The flooding affected train services, and power supplies, and some roads became impassable.

The Taiwan Railway Administration says 11 trains out of Chiayi suffered delays due to flooding and low visibility. Some 2 thousand passengers were affected by those delays.

The Chiayi City Fire Department says crews were called out to rescue motorists trapped on flooded roads. No injuries were reported.

According to the Central Weather Bureau, accumulated rainfall in the county from between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. yesterday totaled 23 centimeters.

Accumulated rainfall over the same time period in Yunlin county reached over 12 centimeters.

In Kaohsiung, a temporary bridge over the Lao-nong River was washed away due to heavy rain.

The weather bureau says a new front will bring unstable weather and heavy rain to the island for the remainder of this week. The front will hover over Taiwan until June 7th and the weather bureau is warning of the risk of flooding and landslides.
