This Ferryboat Flies

People in Sweden made a flying ferryboat! Wait... what's a ferryboat?

Ferryboats are buses on water. They carry many people. People use them to go
to work or school. Some ferries carry cars too.
Ferryboat渡輪就像水上的公車，載人上班、上學，也可以載車子。

Ferries need to push lots of water so they can move. That takes a lot of
energy. All that water makes ferries slow. It also makes ferries move side to
side and up and down. Many people feel seasick.
渡輪需要很大的動力才能往前走。水流會讓渡輪的速度變慢，也會搖晃。很多人會因此暈船。

The flying ferry from Sweden can carry thirty people. It doesn't carry cars.
It starts in the water. Then it flies close above the water!
瑞典的飛行渡輪可以搭載30個人，它不載車子。它從海上起飛並在海面上飛行。

This flying ferry doesn't need to push water to move, so it doesn't use a lot
of energy. It's very fast. And it doesn't move side to side or up and down.
People don't get seasick.
這艘飛行渡輪速度非常快，而且不需要消耗很多的動力，也不會搖晃。

And this ferry is electric! That helps the Earth. Electricity costs ninety
percent less than the fuel for other ferries. What a huge saving! That helps
ferry companies.

These Kids Take the School Boat

How do you go to school? Do you take the bus? Do you go by scooter or car?

What happens when it rains very hard? Maybe you put on a raincoat. You open
your umbrella. Then you go to school. When the rain stops, everything's fine.
But some kids' lives are changed by rain.

Last October, it rained very, very hard for two days in Scotland. In one

What Killed the Dinosaurs?

Once upon a time, there were big dinosaurs living on Earth. Why did they go
away?
很久以前，恐龍還活在地球上，那牠們為什麼消失了呢?

Some people say a very big space rock hit the Earth in Mexico. The "kaboom"
was so big that it hit all the dinosaurs. Did this happen?
據說是一顆超大的隕石墜落在墨西哥，讓所有的恐龍滅亡。真的是這樣嗎?

Some smart scientists have another idea. They say the dinosaurs are gone
because of volcanoes in India.
也有科學家覺得恐龍是因為印度的火山爆發而絕種。

Volcanoes are special mountains. They have holes on top! Volcanoes rumble and
grumble. And they shoot out fire!
火山會隆隆作響，還會噴出火焰。

At the time of the dinosaurs, volcanoes shot out lots of fire and smoke. This
happened for a very long time. This made the air very smelly.

After many years, the volcanoes changed the weather. The world got very cold.
These scientists think this is why the dinosaurs are gone.

Taipei 101 Stayed Strong During Earthquake

In some places, earthquakes happen a lot. In these places, it's important for
buildings to be safe during earthquakes. Engineers need to build strong and
steady buildings.
有一些地區常常發生地震，所以這些地區的建築物必須堅固、穩定。

Taiwan had a strong earthquake on April third. Most buildings were fine!
台灣在4月3號發生大地震，但大部分的建築物都沒事。

Taipei 101 was fine too. It's one of the tallest buildings in the world! It
was built to be very strong, even during earthquakes.
世界最高建築物之一的台北101也沒事，發生地震的時候，101還是很堅固。

Engineers made Taipei 101 flexible. That means the building can move from
side to side. This is important during earthquakes.
工程師建造台北101的時候，確保它有韌性，這在地震的時候很重要。

Taipei 101 has a very big, shiny ball. This ball is 660 tons! It's inside the
building! And it's near the top! It can move from side to side. When the
building moves to the left, the ball moves to the right. This helps keep the
building safe and steady during an earthquake!

Taiwan's Little Hero Finds People

Dogs are good friends to people. Some dogs also do important work for us. For
one job, they work at airports. They use their noses! They sniff for drugs.
狗狗是人類的好朋友，有一些狗狗也會為人類工作，像是在機場工作的狗狗會用鼻子聞有沒有毒品。

The Kaohsiung police tried to teach a dog to sniff for drugs. But he wasn't
good at it. He had too much energy! He's too friendly! Down, boy!
高雄的警察試著教一隻狗狗成為緝毒犬，但是牠太有活力而且又太親近人。

But having energy and being friendly are very good for another very important
job. This dog became a rescue dog!
有活力又親近人也可以做一項很重要的工作，這隻狗可以成為搜救犬。

Rescue dogs look for people after earthquakes or other bad things happen.
This dog's first job was six years ago. Taiwan had a big earthquake.
