On this week’s extra-long episode, former AIT Director Bill Stanton and current Taiwan based journalist Jane Rickards join the show to discuss last week’s call between US President-elect Donald Trump and Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen. We spend the whole first half of the show breaking the whole news jumble down starting with how the call came about, how the media responded, and where this is all leading for Taiwan.
Then in the second half, we move on to discuss some domestic news, including the recently passed amendments to the Labor Standards Act, a KMT backed referendum on food safety and new moves by Taiwan’s government to put the squeeze on ride-hailing app Uber.
Also, you’re supposed to flush your toilet paper now … so … big news this week.
Got a little bit carried away with this one, ended up being longer than we like to go. Really could be two episodes, so just be aware of that going in. Pace yourselves, and enjoy.
