President Tsai Ingwen has placed 17th in Forbes’ magazine’s 100 Most Powerful Women of 2016.
Tsai places between Abigail Johnson, the CEO of Fidelity in 16th and Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet in 18th place.
The list of the world’s most powerful women in business, science, philanthropy and politics is topped by Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel in the number one spot.
Forbes writes that this year, it removed the celebrity section of its list to make room for a rising number of female world leaders.
It notes that according to the Pew Research Center, the number of women who are presidents or heads of state has more than doubled since 2005.
So, out were last year’s Taylor Swift (no. 64), and Angelina Jolie (no. 54), and in were Chilean president Michelle Bachelet (no. 18), Nepal’s president, Bidhya Bhandari (no. 52), and of course, President Tsai as well.
Here are the top 20 on the list:
1. Angela Merkel (Chancellor, Germany)
2. Hillary Clinton (Presidential candidate, United States)
3. Janet Yellen (Chair, Federal Reserve, Washington, United States)
4. Melinda Gates, Cochair (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation)
5. Mary Barra (CEO, General Motors)
6. Christine Lagarde (Managing director, International Monetary Fund)
7. Sheryl Sandberg (COO, Facebook)
