Operators of the Taipei 101 say the 2016 New Year’s fireworks display could be the iconic building’s last.

Taipei 101 spokesman Michael Liu says difficulties finding sponsors and concerns about the environmental impact of fireworks could result in the use of light-emitting diode displays in the future.

According to Liu, the 101 had been hoping to cooperate with other buildings in the area to stage the fireworks display, but the plan fell through due to concerns about safety and crowd evacuation plans.

The 2016 fireworks display will last 238 seconds, and is estimated to cost 45-million NT.

The theme of the 2016 display is “Nature is Future,” and features images of flora, fauna and marine life to raise awareness of environmental protection.

A total of 30,000 rounds of fireworks are expected to be set off at the Taipei 101 at midnight on December 31st.

*update Dec.1st: Taipei 101 has revealed that software and hardware developer BungBungame is sponsoring this year’s new years fireworks display.
