Relatives of several recognized Second World War Republic of China (ROC) veterans have accepted an invitation by the ROC’s government to attend a series of events to mark the 70th anniversary of the Allied forces’ victory in 1945.

One such foreign national was German businessman John Heinrich Detlev Rabe who hid and protected many Chinese civilians in the Siemens facilities during the Nanjing Massacre of 1937.

His grandson, Thomas Rabe, said he plans to attend the commemorative events in August.

President Ma Ying-jeou said the commemorative events will be held from July to October.
