Japanese composer and musical director Joe Hisaishi, best known for composing the scores of many of Hayao Miyazaki’s animations, will hold a concert in Taipei in February.

Hisaishi will collaborate with the National Symphony Orchestra in the “Maestro of the Century – Joe Hisaishi” concert at the National Concert Hall on Feb. 25.

Promoters say the musicians will play “RASEN” for string orchestra, “Castle in the Sky” from the animation of the same name, and “One Summer’s Day” from the animation “Spirited Away,”, among other works.

Hisaishi, 64, has composed the scores of many of Miyazaki’s popular animations, including “Spirited Away,” “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Ponyo.”

In May last year, his indoor concert and simultaneous outdoor screenings in Tainan was billed as one of the largest classical concerts ever held in the southern Taiwanese city, attracting an audience of over 10,000.
