The opening of Taipei MRT’s Songshan Line, an extension of the Xindian line, tomorrow will pave for the way to some of the best spots in the capital that were previously inaccessible by MRT.

Stretching 8.5 kilometers, the line crosses the pre-existing Ximen, Zhongshan, Songjiang Nanjing and Nanjing Fuxing MRT stations and stops at the newly-constructed Beimen, Taipei Arena, Nanjing Sanmin and Songshan MRT stations.

EasyCard holders will also be able to enjoy one months free travel on the line.

Here are some of the best sights to check out at some of the new MRT stations!

Beimen Station

One stop way from the bustling youth hub of Ximen, Beimen station is styled after the numerous historic monuments in the area. Also nearby is the half a century old Zheng-ji restaurant, famous for its roasted pork leg over rice (鄭記豬腳肉飯).

Taipei Arena Station

People can make a visit to Taipei Arena, the venue of many concerts and the location of an ice-skating rink loved by young and old, and nearby furniture giant IKEA with ease. It’s no longer a 20 minute walk from Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT station or a bus transfer away.

Songshan Station

At the end of the line is Songshan MRT Station, which merged with the Songshan Train Station. The area is famous for the cultural landmark Ciyou Temple, dedicated to the goddess Mazu, as well as the Raohe Street night market, overflowing with a mixture of traditional Taiwanese cuisine, ranging from hujia bing, roast pork leg vermicelli, douhua and grass jelly tea.
