Taiwan’s Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Education Foundation announced yesterday, that South Korean actress Lee Young-ae will be awarded the “Love of Lives Medal”.

The actress is being awarded for her generous donation in July to help a Taiwan family stranded in Seoul pay off a hospital bill to return home.

The foundation plans to invite Lee, who is known worldwide for her 2003 drama “Dae Jang Geum”, to Taiwan next year to receive the medal.

Lee made headlines and touched hearts around Taiwan in July when she offered about $100 000 US dollars to a young Taiwan couple.

The young mother unexpectedly went into labor two months early while visiting South Korea and could not return home because she and her husband could not afford the medical bills for care of their premature newborn.
