Taiwan band Elephant Gym leads the pack with eight nominations for the 5th Golden Indie Music Awards.

The Ministry of Culture’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development sats the bass-driven band from Kaohsiung received nominations for best album, best band, best rock single, best jazz single, album with the best style and single with the best style.

Two of its members have also been nominated in the best musician category.

Alternative rock band Guntzepaula’s album “Huozhong” has garnered the second-highest number of nominations with six nods, followed by Dwagie’s “Refuse to Listen” and Simhanada’s “1/84000,” each with five nods.

The MOC says a total of 1,610 works were submitted for awards this year.

For the Golden Indie Music Awards, only albums with 70 percent of the music written by the artist can qualify for nomination, which separates it from the Golden Melody Awards, Taiwan’s largest music award that honors mostly commercially released music.

The award ceremony will be held Dec. 6 at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei.
