Financial services corporation American Express says more than 110,000 people in Taiwan last year, held liquid assets of more than NT$30 million.

American Express cited the 2014 World Wealth report compiled by France-based consulting company Capgemini and the Royal Bank of Canada as showing that the number surpassed 110,000 in 2013, pushing up its ranking in the world to 22nd.

In Asia, Taiwan ranked fifth, with growth of 17.4 percent, second only to China in the major economies in Asia.

American Express says, with the solid performance of Taiwan’s stock market this year, it expects the number of Taiwan’s rich to further increase.
