Here’s the latest trailer to Tom Cruise’s upcoming sci-fi action film, Edge of Tomorrow. Unlike The Grand Budapest Hotel, this is the kind of movie I usually go for. I’m a science-fiction/fantasy novel buff, so the kind of action we’re getting in this trailer is right up my alley.

Edge of Tomorrow is based on a Japanese novel, “All You Need Is Kill,” and the movie looks like a mix between Gears of War and Groundhog Day. Tom’s character wakes up every time he dies at the start of this particular day, and he will have to relive this day over and over until he figures out how to beat whatever enemy mankind is facing. At least, I assume that’s his goal. There could be some plot twist in the movie revealing some hidden secret behind his semi-immortality.

Honestly, one of the main things about the movie that interests me is its similarity to a video game. In a lot of games, you basically die over and over until you figure out just what you need to do to survive the level and beat the boss. This is essentially the same thing, except it’s, y’know, you dying, instead of just a character you’re controlling. But hey, he gets to play around with cool-looking exo-suits and guns and stuff, and blow up octopus-looking aliens. What more can you ask?

So yes, I’m looking forward to this. It’s supposed to be out in a few weeks! Review will of course follow after I watch it!
