Rubber Ducks Race Through Chicago

Hi there! Today is the International Day of Charity.
今天是國際慈善日！

Charity is when people do things to help the causes they care about. Maybe
you want to look after sick people, or help stop global warming, or help save
animals…

Good causes around the world need all kinds of charity. Some people need help
making money, to pay for things that help people. This is called
"fundraising".
Fundraising 就是募款，有一些人會募款幫助其他的人。

Last month there was a big charity fundraising event in the USA, called the
"Chicago Ducky Derby"!

Anyone who wanted to take part had to pay for a toy duck first.

75,005 toy ducks were thrown into the river, and they made lots of money for
charity!

They were raising money for a charity called the 'Special Olympics', which
helps people with learning difficulties take part in sports.

It's a great charity, because it helps people get active, feel good, and make
lots of new friends!

Taiwan's Award-Winning Chocolates

Hi, students! Today might be the best holiday ever... it's International
Chocolate Day!
今天是國際巧克力日！

And, if you want to try some of the best chocolate in the world, you don't
need to go very far. You don't even have to leave Taiwan!

In the UK there is a very special group of chocolate pros, called "The
Academy of Chocolate". An "academy" is a kind of school. This is their name
because they want to help people learn all about chocolate!
英國有個巧克力學院！

Every year The Academy has a big competition, called The Golden Bean Awards.
They only give their awards to people they think have made the best chocolaty
treats in the whole wide world! And this year, Taiwan's chocolate was the
best!
他們每一年都會辦巧克力比賽，今年台灣得到金牌！

Everything about this chocolate is from Taiwan! It starts out as a bean on a
cocoa tree in Pingtung.

Later they add some great local Taiwan tastes: like mango leaves, or oolong

California Says No to Gas Cars

Today is World Car Free Day! It's a time when some people stop driving their
cars for a whole day.
今天是世界無車日！

Cars make a lot of pollution. There are lots of other ways to stop cars from
making so much pollution. Like in California… they want to stop selling gas
cars by 2035.
汽車製造了很多污染。美國加州想從2035年以後不賣燃油車了。

California won't stop selling all cars. They will just stop selling cars that
use gas, which make lots of pollution. They will still sell cars that use
electricity, of course.
不是所有車都不賣了，他們還會賣電動車。

Other states in America also want to ban the sale of gas cars. This means the
air in these places will be cleaner.
美國有一些地方也想要不賣燃油車，這樣空氣會比較乾淨。

And now, Taiwan says it wants to ban the sale of gas cars too! Wow! That's
great. Taiwan won't stop selling them as soon as California, though. Taiwan
plans to stop selling gas cars by 2040. That's five years later than
California.

Store Uses Robots to Deliver Coffee

Hi, students! Let's talk about robots. Lots of companies use robots.

There is even a convenience store in Taiwan that uses robots. It's in
Kaohsiung. The store in Kaohsiung is testing robots to deliver coffee.
高雄有一間便利商店，用機器人送咖啡！

This robot doesn't look like a person. It looks like a cart. It is a cart
with wheels that can travel inside and outside to deliver coffee to people.
它看起來不像人，像手推車，下面還有輪子。

Why is this cart a robot? It can move on its own. It doesn't need people to
push it. The robot cart can even take an elevator by itself!
這個機器人會自己動，不用人家推，還可以自己搭電梯！

This robot can deliver up to 24 orders at once. To deliver that many coffees
with a human would cost a lot of money, but this store in Kaohsiung thinks
using robots will be much cheaper. Which means food and drink could be
cheaper too!
這個機器人一次可以送24份餐， 店家說在人力成本上能夠省下很多錢！

That's pretty cool. There is also a convenience store in Hsinchu that is
testing a different kind of robot. This one is a flying robot. This flying
robot is called a drone.
新竹也有一間便利商店，是用機器人，但這個機器人是無人機。

The store wants to use drones to deliver things to people who live in rural
areas. Do you know what another name for "rural" is? It's the countryside.
The drones could help people living in the countryside a lot.

Electric Airplanes Tested in America

Hi students! Today we're talking about electric vehicles.
我們今天要講的是電動交通工具。

There are electric bicycles, electric cars, and even electric buses! The
world is changing: now, there is even an electric airplane!
現在有電動腳踏車、電動車、電動巴士，甚至還有電動飛機！

They are testing the electric airplane in America. This electric airplane is
small. It can carry just 11 people.
