Asteroid Coming Close to Earth on March 21st

Don't you think the sky at night is pretty? You can see so many stars when
the sky is clear at night. If you're lucky, you might see a shooting star!

I wish I had a telescope, 真希望我有一台天文望遠鏡， then I could see things
in outer space more clearly.

There are a lot of things floating around in outer space.
外太空有很多東西飄來飄去。There are stars, other planets, and of course,
asteroids! 有星星、星球，還有小行星！

Asteroids are rocks that float around the Sun in outer space. Asteroid
繞著太陽走的小行星。Sometimes, these asteroids get close enough to Earth that
we can see them.

In fact, space experts say that there will be a huge asteroid coming near
Earth on March 21st. 專家說三月二十一號有一個很大的行星會靠近地球。

Experts say this asteroid is the biggest and fastest asteroid that will pass
Earth this year.

But don't worry. 不用擔心。Scientists have been watching this asteroid for
years, and they are sure that even though it will come very close to Earth,
it will not hit us. 雖然它會很靠近，但它不會撞到我們。

They also say that if you have a telescope at home, make sure you use it!
Because as this asteroid gets closer to Earth, the brighter it will be and
the clearer people can see it. 記得用望遠鏡看看這個小行星！

I definitely want to find a telescope so I can get a closer look at this
asteroid passing us!

Too Many Chickens

Remember the chicken in the cartoon movie "Moana"?

That chicken was so silly...always going…

One silly chicken is pretty funny … but what about 1,000 chickens?

Or 2,000? Or 3,000? 一隻笨雞很好笑，有幾千隻的話，會好笑嗎?

My, oh my...that's not funny...that's too many chickens.

There are many islands in Hawaii.

But now, there is a problem on one of the islands --- too many wild chickens!
在夏威夷某一個島上，有個超多野雞的麻煩。

Here's the story: after a few typhoons, some farm chickens got away.

Two became eight and eight became 20 and 20 became...well, thousands!
幾次颱風過後，一些養雞場的雞逃走了，結果兩隻變8隻，再變成20隻，然後變成幾千隻。

The people on the island are not happy about the wild chickens.

They go "cock-a-doodle-doo" all day...and all night!
島上居民一點都不開心，因為雞一天到晚都在叫。

They are noisy, and they eat everything they can find....even garbage!

But wait...why don't they...you know...just eat them?

Robot Squid

Some people have another name for the Earth... they call our world the "Blue
Planet".

Why do they call it the Blue Planet? Because most of the Earth is water!
地球大部分是是水，所以被叫做「藍色星球」。

But, we don't know very much about the ocean. It's easy for scientists to
study mountains and land animals... but learning about the ocean is hard!
了解海洋比研究陸地生物還難！所以，目前對海洋認知並不多。

We can't swim deep in the ocean like a whale. We can go down in submarines...
but submarines are sometimes too noisy, and they scare away sea creatures.

So, scientists are now using a new robot to study the deep ocean.

Be Careful in the Mountains

Hiking is so much fun! And it's a good way to exercise. More and more people
in Taiwan are hiking in the mountains… Taiwan has so many mountains… and
there are so many places to go hiking! 台灣有很多山，有些很適合爬山、健行。

But… the Taiwan government says people need to be more careful when they go
hiking in the mountains.

Too many people are getting lost... and too many people are getting hurt.
因為有太多人在山裡迷路或是受傷，應該要小心注意。

If you get lost, a helicopter might have to come to find you… it's not easy
to find people with a helicopter. 而且出動直升機在山裡面找人不容易。

And if you get hurt… it might take a long time before they can take you to
the hospital.

The best way to go mountain hiking is with a guide. A guide knows all about
the mountains and can help you not get lost or hurt.
登山健行最好有嚮導，因為他們熟悉當地的狀況，不會讓你迷路或受傷。

Some people think they are smart enough to go all by themselves. "No
problem... I'll just start hiking... let's go...that way!"

Saving Water

This year, it hasn't rained very much in many places in Taiwan.

So far this year in Kaohsiung, it only rained a couple of times...and only
for a short time.

No rain means no water! Taiwan has to start saving water!
今年雨水太少，缺水問題嚴重，要節約用水。

But... how can we do that? Stop taking a shower? Stop brushing your teeth?
(laughs) Of course not! That's silly.

But there are some things we can do. When you wash your hands... you can turn
off the water while you scrub with soap... then turn the water back on.
省水的辦法很多，比如洗手要在洗肥皂後，再開水龍頭沖水。

Same with washing dishes. Turn the water on, get the dishes wet... turn the
water off... scrub the dishes... then turn the water back on and rinse them
off. 洗碗也不要一直開著水龍頭，等要沖的時候再開。

And actually, many people take too long in the shower.

Try this: The next time you take a shower... use a clock or a timer. How long
was your shower? 10 minutes? 15 minutes? That's too long!
很多人花十分鐘或十五分鐘洗澡，太久了！

If you can, try to keep your shower to about 5 minutes!
你洗澡需要多久呢？下次試試看只花五分鐘就好。
