Plans for the 2017 Taipei 101 fireworks have been revealed, with lighting being added for the first time.

Building managers say the upcoming show will be 238 seconds long, with the main color being gold, to fit the 2017 theme of “Light Up Taiwan”.

The Taipei 101 Observatory yesterday released an animated preview for the show on its Facebook page.

Out of concern for the environmental impact of smoke from the explosions, the number of fireworks has been lowered from 30-thousand to 20-thousand this time around.

And 800 individual lights will be added to the outer facade of the building as part of the display.

Total cost for the New Years fireworks show comes to 45 million NT, and organizers are expecting 1.5-million visitors to attend.
