The One-Forty Foundation points out that Southeast Asian guest workers now number in the hundreds of thousands in Taiwan, making up a large and important segment of the nation’s society; in fact, their name is a winking reference to the fact that one in forty people living in Taiwan today are themselves a part of this group.

However, despite the large numbers, negative attitudes persist and all too often mean that Southeast Asian migrants are made to feel less than welcome in a country that prides itself on its hospitality. In this episode, we discuss the foundation’s work supporting Taiwan’s migrant workers by offering practical business oriented classes and setting up social event aimed at bridging the gap between locals and newcomers.

Guest: One-Forty Foundation Co-Founder Sophia Wu
