Taiwan health overweight obese

A new study finds that a good portion of Taiwan’s population is overweight.

According to figures published by the Health Promotion Agency, 43 percent of Taiwan citizens are either overweight or obese.

That figure has remained stable from about a decade ago.

During that same period, the number of people who exercise regularly has gone up, from 20 percent to the current 33 percent.

The HPA also notes that the number of smokers in Taiwan has gone down from 22 percent in 2008 to 16 percent now, meaning that some 890 thousand people have kicked the habit over the past six years.

Exposure to second-hand smoke has also plummeted during that time.
