Brace yourselves, Frank Underwood’s back. Netflix’s series House of Cards has a premiere date for its new season – February 27, 2015. The date was announced via a “special message from the White House”.

Confused as to how HoC fans could be losing it over a silent video? If you’re new to HoC, read on and find out what all the fuss is all about.

Created by Beau Willimon, House of Cards is an American adaptation of the BBC’s mini-series of the same name. Set in Washington D.C., it traces the story and career of Frank Underwood – played by a brilliant (as usual) Kevin Spacey – a Democrat from South Carolina’s 5th congressional district. Robin Wright plays his loyal wife, who assists him in his rise to power.

It’s a Macbeth-ian tale of power, politics, manipulation and ruthless pragmatism, and it’s beautifully made.

Created during the golden age of television alongside shows like Breaking Bad, the show takes advantage of the medium of television, allowing for detailed storytelling that slowly and steadily develops its arc and characters over 13 episodes. Not only that, it’s a show with a cultivated, crafted look, achieved with both the fantastic acting of Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright and supporting actors and the mastery of filmmaking by acclaimed directors such as David Fincher, who directed the first two episodes and serves as executive producer, Joel Schumacher and Jodie Foster.

House of Cards is also special in its distribution method – the entire season of 13 episodes is available at once on the streaming service Netflix, enabling viewers to binge-watch the series in one go.

If you’re interested in entering the world of the Underwoods, don’t worry, you still have three months to catch up on seasons one and two, not that you need the time, just a few sleepless nights, which, as Frank Underwood would say, are a necessary sacrifice for the greater good.
