Fellow Sherlockians experiencing withdrawal since season three of Sherlock – our most beloved series starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the eponymous eccentric Baker Street detective and Martin Freeman as his indispensable sidekick – began and ended in January this year, good tidings I bring to you and your kin.
Martin Freeman has told The Telegraph that it is “pretty likely” there will be a period of filming in early 2015.
“If that’s going to be a special,” Freeman says, “I’m speaking off-message here; if this was New Labour I’d get fired – I think that might be for next Christmas. A Christmas special. That’s what I understand.”
That is rather a long wait, but when it comes to Sherlock and its notoriously long hiatuses – they kept us waiting two years for season three – any news is better than no news at all. And if it’s anything like “Many Happy Returns” – the Christmas special we got last December – I’m sure it’ll have us squealing and gushing to our little fangirl and fanboy hearts’ content.
In the mean time, while I go and re-watch the entirety of the three seasons again, I leave you with this gratuitous GIF.
