Giant Parrot

Hi everyone! Welcome! Make yourselves comfortable, it's time for another
story!

Everyone knows that many, many, many years ago, there were lots of giant
animals walking around the earth, right? Like dinosaurs!
以前，地球有很多很大的動物.像是….恐龍

When you think of dinosaurs, what's the first thing that comes into your
head? 一提到恐龍，你會想到甚麼? ………Woah!!!! Yeah! Something like that,
right?

But what if I told you there was another animal that lived many, many years
ago that sounded more like this?

Heh! What did that sound like to you? 剛那個聲音像甚麼?.........

Yep! That was a parrot! 那是鸚鵡!..........

But this… This parrot wasn't just any parrot, ya know? Oh no...
這隻鸚鵡超大的This was a giant parrot!…………

One day, special scientists who dig up and study super old stuff found some
big bones! !

From these bones they know that many millions of years ago, there used to be
giant parrots! 科學家從挖出的化石知道…很久以前有一種巨型的鸚鵡!

They named the giant parrot… SQUAWKZILLA… Cool name, right?

Squawkzilla was the biggest parrot ever… probably too big to fly.........
Ahem! 我剛說牠不會飛………!

Okay. The giant parrot weighed about 7 kilograms, 大概有7公斤重. About the
same as a bowling ball!

Squawkzilla was also about 1 meter tall, meaning it could reach a grown-up's
belly button!

高度大概1公尺...嗯嗯…差不多到大人肚臍的位置!

Uhhh… Yes, Polly!…. Whatever you say, Polly!

Walking Backward to Save the Forests

Hi Everybody!

A forest is a place with lots of trees! The trees are good homes for
animals!
Lots of animals need the forest! They live there!
很多動物都是住在森林，牠們以森林為家。
But people also need forests and trees!
(Laughs) No, people don't live in the trees … but the trees give us fresh
air! 人類也是需要森林，因為森林製造很多氧氣。
That's right! Trees help make the air we breathe! (Huge gasp of intake of
fresh air sound)
--Thank you, trees!
But, what if we cut down too many trees in the forest? No … trees … no ..
air … we need trees … and we need air …
Cut down too many trees, but we won't have good air to breathe!
That's not good, right? What can we do to help?
Well, there's a man in Indonesia -- and he wants people to stop cutting down
so many trees! 有一個印尼人叫大家停止砍森林。
..So... he's taking a very long walk. I mean, really, long!
The man is walking 700 kilometers … that's like walking from Taipei to
Kaohsiung ... and then from Kaohsiung back to Taipei!
Whoa! That's a long walk!
And …… He's walking …… Backwards! … Yeah, walking the whole way …
Backwards! 他用倒退走路的方式來吸引大家注意。
Walking backwards is not easy! You can try it … But be careful!
It's easy to fall down walking backwards.
But why is the man in Indonesia walking backwards? 但是他為什麼要倒退走呢?
The man says he wants people in Indonesia to think back … think back and
remember all the old trees and old forests.
因為他要人家回想，以前有好多大樹的景象。
So, he's walking backwards … understand? Walking backward to save the
forests!
(Sighs) I hope we can save the forests ...I love forests in Taiwan and
forests all over the world!

200 years of Bicycles

Hi everyone!
騎腳踏車好好玩喔! 你會騎嗎?
I learned how to ride a bicycle when I was in the fifth grade … and I still
ride a bicycle whenever I can!
Using a bicycle is a smart idea. 不用汽油或馬達 … you just need your legs!
Sit on the seat, put your feet on the pedals … push the pedals and go! --
It's pedal power! Amazing! Such a great idea!
So, who had this smart idea? 是誰先發明腳踏車?
Well, the answer is: a lot of people.
The first idea for a bicycle is more than 200 years old! It was made in
Germany. But the first bicycle didn't have pedals … you put your feet on the
ground and pushed the bicycle forward with your legs.
Now, bicycles use pedals, a chain, and gears …. now, you can ride a bicycle
really far and really fast!
腳踏車改變了全世界。 Today, lots of people use "public bicycles."
"Public" means "for people" and … well … you know what "bicycle" means,
right?
A public bicycle is a bicycle anyone can borrow - or rent - for only a little
money. It's an easy and convenient idea!
In Taipei, public bicycles are called "U-Bikes" and in Kaohsiung, they are
called "C-Bikes."台灣到處都找得到腳踏車!
Hey … maybe we don't need so many cars or motorcycles…we can ride bicycles!
Bicycles are clean and quiet … and you can get some exercise when you ride
them, too!
And did you know? Taiwan makes really good bicycles! All over the world,
people love bicycles made in Taiwan. Cool, right?
I'm really glad so many people had great ideas that gave us bicycles! Pedal
power is amazing!

3-D Printer Makes a House

Oh, hi. Excuse me. I'm printing something from my computer. It's just a
regular printer. It's not a 3-D printer.

Do you know about 3-D printers? 你知道3D印表機嗎？

3-D printers can make great things. They can make plastic cups, bowls, toys,
and lots more. 3-D printers can also make houses!
3D印表機可以印出杯子、碗或是玩具，現在還可以蓋房子！

That's right. You can print a 3-D house.

A really big 3-D printer made a house in Belgium. That's in Europe.
在歐洲的比利時，有用3D印表機蓋的房子喔。

The 3-D house has two floors and people can live in it.
那是2層樓的房子，而且有人住。

The printer didn't use plastic to make the house. It used concrete, so it is
really strong! 不是塑膠，是用混凝土做的，很堅固喔。

It took three weeks to make the big house. 花了三個禮拜才完成。

But some 3-D houses can be made in less than three weeks.
有些不用花這麼久的時間喔。

I wish I had a 3-D printer. I only have a regular printer. What would you

Robot Animals

Do you like animals? And how about robots? 你喜歡動物嗎? 那機器人呢？They're
pretty cool too, right?

Then I think you're going to love robot animals! 那你應該也會愛機器動物吧？！

Yeah! There are robots that look like animals! Some of them even act like
animals! And some even do very important jobs!
有的機器動物的動作，很像真的，有些還負責重要的工作！

Like the robot dolphin at one zoo. They can swim like real dolphins and
people can swim with them too.

People can have fun with dolphins without keeping them in a tank!
像動物園裡面的機器海豚，會陪人游泳，也可以跟牠們玩得很開心！

There are robot dogs and cats too! And in one care home, they are friends to
the people who live there! 還有機器狗跟機器貓，會陪住養老院的人。

In one park they have a robot sloth! The sloth has a camera to watch the
animals and the plants, and to check what's going on in the park.

But what about in the sea? Well, there's also a robot squid.
