Dance Floor Turns Body Heat Into Energy

Oh yeah! I love dancing! Feel the beat, woo! Do you like to dance? It's a lot
of fun, but you use a lot of energy, too.
跳舞很好玩，但也是很花體力。

When we dance, our bodies make more heat. If lots of people dance together,
the dance floor will also warm up!
我們跳舞的時候，身體會變熱。如果大家一起跳舞，地板的溫度會升高！

Now, a dance club in Scotland wants to use all that heat. They have invented
a dance floor that turns body heat into energy.
蘇格蘭的一家舞廳發明了一種地板，可以把身體的熱變成能量。

How does it work? Under the dance floor there are pipes to suck up the heat.
Those pipes send the heat deep down into the earth. There, they put the heat
into a battery.
怎麼做到的呢？地板下面會有管子可以吸熱，然後把熱送到地下的電池裡面。

Later, the dance club can use that heat to warm up on a cold day. They can
even use it to heat water.
這個舞廳會用這些熱當作暖氣，或是把水加熱。

This technology helps the dance club save money. They don't need to buy heat,
because they have this battery. What's more, it is good for the environment.
這樣可以幫舞廳省錢！他們就不用去買瓦斯了。而且，這樣對環境很好。

That's great news. It makes me want to dance some more. If we keep dancing,
we can make more heat, and this technology can use that heat energy.

Zoo Reopens in Kaohsiung

December 27th is "Visit the Zoo Day", so today… I'm going to visit the zoo!

Yeah! The Kaohsiung Zoo just opened again, and it looks great! The old zoo
was too small for the animals, but the new one has lots of space, and it's
cleaner and nicer too!
高雄壽山動物園重新開幕了！舊的動物園對動物來說太小了，新的大多了！

There are 'skywalks' at the new Kaohsiung Zoo. They are like bridges. People
can see the animals much better now, but the skywalks also hide the people
from the animals!
新的動物園裡面有空中步道，我們更容易看到動物，但動物看不到我們。

This is really good because it means the animals can feel happy at the zoo
and not get scared by seeing so many people.
這樣很好，動物會比較開心，也不會被人嚇到。

One of my favorite things at the new Kaohsiung Zoo is the chimpanzee cage
restaurant.
我最喜歡的還是新的黑猩猩籠子餐廳。

Chimpanzees are super smart and of course, they are our animal relatives!

The old chimp cage wasn't very nice. It was kind of like a jail.
原本的黑猩猩籠子有一點像監獄，對黑猩猩不好。

But now that old cage is going to be a restaurant for visitors, and the
chimps have a super big new area where they can live and play.

A zoo can be a wonderful place for people to see and learn about animals, but
a zoo should always think about the animals first.

Hong Kong Lights the Sky with Lasers

For many people around the world, tomorrow is the end of the year! So, it's
"Bye Bye, 2022!", and a big "Hello!" to the year 2023!

Tomorrow, December 31st, is called 'New Year's Eve'.

Because it's the last day of the year, there's always a big party! Everyone
counts in the New Year together …

When the New Year begins, so do the fireworks!
明天是12月31號，大家都會一起倒數新年。新年一到，就會開始放煙火。

One of the most famous New Year's Eve fireworks shows in the world is right
here in Taiwan!

At Taipei 101. It's so tall that people for miles around can all watch and
enjoy the fireworks together.
世界最有名的跨年煙火之一就在台灣的台北101！101很高，從很遠的地方也可以看到！

But some countries don't use fireworks for New Year's Eve anymore. In Hong
Kong they haven't had any fireworks for 4 years. Instead, they have lasers!

This year they plan to have an awesome laser show for a full ten minutes!
As well as a local drumming group, a crazy-cool skipping rope club, and

Saving Fish by Removing Dams

A river is very strong. It takes water from the mountains to the ocean, and
it's always pushing forward. A river is full of power!
河流的力量很強，可以把水從山上一路帶到海裡。

How can people use that power? On many rivers, people build a dam. A dam is a
wall across the river. The dam can hold back the water, and use the river's
power to make electricity for people.
人們會在河川上蓋水壩，把水攔住，用河流的力量發電。

More dams make more power, and more electricity for us to use. That sounds
good... but actually, people have decided to remove the dams from a river in
California.
越多水壩，就有越多電，聽起來不錯吧？但最近，加州的人決定把他們一條河上的水壩都拆掉。

That's because people are not the only ones who use the river. Fish also need
to live there.
因為不只是人類需要河流，魚類也需要生活空間。

For the salmon, the river is like a road. Every year, the salmon swim up the
river to lay their eggs.

When the eggs hatch, the baby salmon swim back down the river to reach the

The World's Biggest Water Battery

We can use the power of water to make clean energy, without any smelly smoke
or dirty pollution.
我們可以用水力製造乾淨的能源，還不會製造汙染跟濃煙！

That's why, high in the mountains of Switzerland, they've just built the
world's biggest water battery!
現在瑞士在一座高山上，蓋了世界最大的水電池！

It's made of two huge lakes, one high above, and one down below. To make
electricity, water moves super-fast from the high lake down to the low lake,
through big long tunnels!
這個電池由兩座湖構成。水會從比較高的湖，通過隧道流到比較低的湖裡面，這樣就可以發電！

Inside the tunnels are huge turbines. They look like the blades of a fan, but
much, much bigger!
