People have bones.

Dogs have bones, cats have bones… lots of animals have bones.

Our bones are inside our body.

But, some animals don't have bones.

Yeah! Insects! 沒錯，就是昆蟲！

Many bugs, like beetles, have a hard shell… the shell keeps them safe.

But most beetle shells are not super hard.
甲蟲有硬外殼保護，但大部分不是超級堅硬

A bird can crunch it… and if a car runs over it… Well… sorry… um...
bye-bye beetle.

But scientists have found a beetle with a super hard shell.

This beetle's shell does not crack… even if a car runs over it!
不過科學家新發現一種甲蟲，牠的殼超級硬。就算被汽車壓過去，也沒事！

The shell is so hard, if the beetle was the size of an adult person,
thousands of elephants could stand on top of it and it still wouldn't be
crushed!

Scientists are learning about the beetle's hard shell.

Maybe they can copy it and make super-strong things for people to use!

Don't Let Moose Lick Your Car

If you drive a car in Canada, you need to be careful of icy roads, snowy
weather, and… a moose licking your car!

Did you know that in some parts of Canada, there are signs warning people to
not let moose lick their cars?

That's right, people need to be careful of moose in Canada, because they're

But they also need to be careful not to let moose lick their cars!

This is because if moose get used to licking cars, they might get too close
sometimes. And then they could hurt themselves or other people.

But why do moose lick cars? Experts say it's because they really like salt.

Salt is used on icy roads so they aren't so slippery. And sometimes that

Why Do Cats Meow?

Hello, kitty. Do you want some food? Here you go, here's some food. Good
kitty.

Every day when I come home, my cat says hello to me.

She says "meow"… that's how she talks to me.
我每天我回到家，我的貓會喵喵叫打招呼.

Cats in the wild don't really say "meow."

If they are angry they will growl or hiss… but they don't really 'meow'.

A long time ago, cats helped us chase away rats...and we gave cats food and a

Taiwan's Electric Trains

I'm going to Taitung tomorrow. I'm so excited!

Taitung is on the east side of Taiwan, we call that the "East Coast."
我好期待明天要去台東！它在台灣的「東海岸」。

I'm going to take a train from Kaohsiung to Taitung!

And guess what?

The train ride from Kaohsiung to Taitung takes less than 2 hours now!
現在從高雄搭火車到台東，不用兩個小時。

It's faster now because it uses electricity.

And now all of the trains in Taiwan use electricity!
台灣現在所有的火車都電氣化，也更快了。

The old trains used a kind of gasoline... like a car. They are slower and
there is pollution!

The new electric trains are quiet, faster and there is no pollution!

There are about 1,100 kilometers of rail lines in Taiwan…

They make a big circle around us! 鐵路繞台灣一圈，大約有1100公里長，so it

Taking an electric train is faster and quieter and there's no pollution.

And, I can get to Taitung tomorrow in just under 2 hours! That's really fast!

A Mystery Metal Object

Hey, students!

Today we have a very strange story. It starts strange and then gets even
stranger.

It happened in a desert in America. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere!
That means 故事發生在美國的一個沙漠。

Anyway, one day people in a helicopter saw something shiny in the desert.
有一天，一個人從直升機上，看見沙漠裡有亮亮的東西。

When they went to see what it was, they found a huge metal… thing! Actually,
nobody really knows what it is... It's shiny and has three sides… and it's
big too! It's about 3 and a half meters tall.

That's about the height of one adult... standing on top of another adult!

Nobody knows what it is or where it came from… Who put it there? How did
they put it there? And why did they put it there? It's so strange!

Some people think the giant, mystery metal object is a piece of art. And some
