Driverless Cars - Cool or Spooky?

Hi, Everyone! One time in Kaohsiung, I saw a bus. 我在高雄看過一種小巴士…
the little bus drove around for a few minutes and …… WAIT, Wait, wait! This
is a cool story! … I promise!

The bus had NO driver!!

YEAH! I'm not joking! It was an electric-powered bus … without a
driver!用電腦來控制的

Maybe someday … ALL of our cars and buses won't need drivers! They will have
a computer driver!

In English, we call cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles, "vehicles." Taiwan
has a lot of vehicles!

Some people like to drive … they think driving is fun. But I really don't
like driving … Driving makes me feel nervous! 有些人喜歡開車，但我會緊張 In
Taiwan we have so many vehicles…Every time I drive my car … um … I feel a
little scared!

So, I'm happy to hear about cars that don't have drivers! These vehicles have
a super smart computer … and the computer is the driver!

Computers are getting smarter and smarter …. and in the future, maybe every
vehicle … every car, bus, or truck … will have a computer driver!

Just imagine! Your car can take you to school … with no driver! Just get in,
put on your seatbelt, maybe do your homework … or watch a video on the way
to school. 坐這種車去上學，也許還可以在車上打電動、看影片

I think that sounds great! 這真的太棒了！

BUT …. Vehicles with no drivers need to be 100% safe, right? What if the
computer driver makes a mistake? HMM… what do you think? Is a computer
driver scary … or cool?

Well, I think it sounds pretty cool! BUT … I'm always going to wear my
seatbelt … even if my computer driver is super smart!

Too Bright for Fireflies!

Hey everybody!

Do you think fireflies are pretty? 你覺得螢火蟲漂亮嗎？ I do! I love
fireflies … I like to watch them at night!

Taiwan has lots of very pretty fireflies. They are so beautiful! Fireflies
shine … like stars! 螢火蟲一閃一閃的 …好像天上的星星

Sometimes, I go to Maoli to see fireflies … or Kaohisung or Pingtung … I go
all over Taiwan to see fireflies! 我全台灣都跑就是為了看螢火蟲

But we have a problem! There are not so many fireflies now!
現在的問題是，螢火蟲沒那麼多了...the fireflies are going away! Oh my!

It's very sad! I want to see LOTS of fireflies every year … not just one or
two …

So...why are fireflies saying 'bye bye'? 為甚麼螢火要離開我們呢

Maybe … because it's too bright! There are too many lights at night.

People like light. We use lots of light at night.

We have lights in our house, lights on our car, lights on the street, lights
in the park … everywhere has light at night!

But fireflies DON'T like light! 螢火蟲喜歡暗暗的，They need a dark, dark
night ... then they can shine like stars! 這樣他們才能像星星一樣閃閃發亮

Hmmm… Maybe people can turn off some lights. 也許我們應該關掉一些燈Maybe we
don't need so many lights at night. 晚上根本用不到這麼多燈， 對吧

Then ... maybe more fireflies will come back!

I hope so. I hope we can turn off more lights at night … so my firefly
friends can shine like stars!

If it's too bright … we can't see the stars … and we can't see the
fireflies!

Hi everybody! You know … I really like my bicycle!

I think bicycles are amazing! Bicycles are easy, fun, good for you, and good
for the air! No pollution! 騎車不會有空氣汙染的問題 I ride my bicycle, um,
everywhere! I ride my bicycle to go shopping, to the park, to meet my
friends, but I'm not a bicycle race winner! (laughs) Nope. I'm not like
Fiona!

Fiona is a young woman from Germany, and she won a super hard bicycle race!
She rode her bicycle a long way! 她是個年輕德國女生 .

Can you imagine riding your bicycle from Taipei to Kaohsiung? That's pretty

Well, Fiona rode her bicycle from Bulgaria to France… that's like riding

Walking Backward to Save the Forests

Hi Everybody!

A forest is a place with lots of trees! The trees are good homes for
animals!
Lots of animals need the forest! They live there!
很多動物都是住在森林，牠們以森林為家。
But people also need forests and trees!
(Laughs) No, people don't live in the trees … but the trees give us fresh
air! 人類也是需要森林，因為森林製造很多氧氣。
That's right! Trees help make the air we breathe! (Huge gasp of intake of
fresh air sound)

But, what if we cut down too many trees in the forest? No … trees … no ..
air … we need trees … and we need air …

Animals and global warming

Many scientists think global warming is making the earth's temperature become
hotter.

Cars on the street create pollution. This makes the air dirty.
