Girl Makes Christmas Special for Kids

Merry Christmas, everyone! I know it's not a holiday in Taiwan. But in
America, Canada, and many other countries, it's a very big
holiday.在美國、加拿大還有其他國家，聖誕節是很重要的節日喔！

People have a family dinner on Christmas. They give presents to each other,
too. 全家人會一起吃大餐，還會給彼此聖誕禮物。I love to open Christmas
presents.

Everybody loves getting presents, especially kids! Today, I want to tell you
about a special little girl. Her name is Pippa Jackson, and she is just four
years old. She lives in England. 今天要講英國的一個4歲的小女孩，Pippa
Jackson。

She started thinking about giving gifts in October. She knows many kids are
poor. Some families can't buy presents for their kids. They don't have enough
money. 她知道很多人沒錢買禮物給小孩。

So, in October, she promised to give 200 gifts to poor kids for Christmas.
所以她決定要發200個禮物，給有需要的小朋友。Wow! That is so nice!

Pippa's family and friends gave her money to buy the 200 presents. She will
send toys, hats, and scarves to kids who need them.
Pippa的朋友家人給他錢讓她去買200個禮物她準備了玩具、帽子跟圍巾，She will help
many kids to have a really great Christmas.

New Year's Superstitions

Happy New Year, everyone!

Did you know that during New Year's, many people around the world have
different superstitions?

A superstition is when someone believes in something for no real reason... or
just thinks it's lucky or unlucky.

Superstition 就是迷信，相信某一個東西會帶來好或不好的運氣。

In Taiwan, many people believe the number 4 is unlucky and you shouldn't
whistle at night!

Those are superstitions! 在台灣數字"4"代表不幸，還有晚上不可以吹口哨。

Today is New Year's Day.

There are a lot of superstitions around the world about New Year's Day, and
some are pretty strange!

Like in Spain, where at 12 o'clock, midnight, on New Year's Eve, they will
eat 12 grapes.

One at each clock chime for good luck.
在西班牙跨年12點的時候每一次鐘響，就要要吃一顆葡萄，希望有好運。

In Switzerland they throw ice cream on the floor!
或是在瑞士，會把冰淇淋丟到地上!

And Ireland some people will take a loaf of bread… and bang it against the

In Denmark, some people will go to the homes of their friends and family…
And smash plates on their doorsteps!

Library Books Returned After 48 Years

Have you ever borrowed something from somebody and forgotten to return
it.你有跟別人借過東西，但忘了還嗎？

Someone in England forgot to return some books they borrowed from a library.
They forgot for a very long time … 48 years!
英國有人在圖書館借書，結果忘記還，時間長達 48年！

Do you know what a library is? A library is a place where you can borrow
books to read. So you go into a library, find a book you like, and bring it
home to read. 圖書館裡面有很多書，你可以把書借回家看。

When you're finished with the book, you bring it back to the library so
someone else can borrow it and read it. 看完後還給圖書館，別人想看才借得到。

Isn't that nice?

But one person in England forgot to return the books they borrowed! And it
took years and years before they returned it! After 48 years, the library
got the books back in the mail. 有人借了忘記還， 48年後，才把書寄回給圖書館。

There was a note too, with the borrower saying they were very, very sorry for
keeping the books for so long.

They borrowed the books back in 1972, but moved away and forgot to give the
books back! 書在1972年被借走，借的人後來搬家忘記還。

Well, it's a good thing they finally remembered! 幸好有想起來！

Foul-mouthed Parrots at Zoo

Did you know that animals can say bad words too? 你知道動物也會說髒話嗎？

Do you know what bad words are? 你知道什麼是髒話？

Have you ever watched a television show or movie and you suddenly hear
beeping sounds when people are talking? Well, those are sounds of bad words
being covered up! 那是把髒話蓋起來的音效。

What are bad words? Usually bad words are words that are very rude.
髒話是指很沒禮貌、很粗魯的話。

You shouldn't say bad words, because they can hurt people's feelings. If you
say them at school or in public, sometimes you can get in trouble.
髒話會傷害別人，也可能讓你惹上麻煩。

I guess some parrots at a wildlife park in England didn't know this, because
they got in trouble for saying a bunch of bad words!

That's right, some parrots can talk! And there are five parrots in England
that got in trouble for saying too many bad words!
英國有五隻會說髒話的鸚鵡，現在牠們有麻煩了。

People who work at the park had to separate the parrots because they would
not stop saying bad words to visitors.
因為牠們一直對遊客說不好的話，所以工作人員只好分開牠們。

Funny story, huh? So humans aren't the only ones who get in trouble for

Man Flies with Balloons

Hi! Everybody loves balloons. Balloons are fun, especially balloons that can
fly up in the air. Can people fly in the air by holding balloons?
人可以靠氣球飛上天嗎？

We see that in cartoons on TV and in movies. But can that really happen?
在卡通、電影裡可以，但是真的會這樣嗎？

The answer is "yes!" A man did that above a desert in America. He held about
50 big balloons - and he flew in the air over the desert! And he went really
high up into the air, too. 在美國，有人抓著50顆氣球，飛越沙漠，而且飛得很高！

So, how did he come back down to Earth? 可是，要怎麼降落呢？

Did the 50 balloons pop? 是氣球破了嗎？

No, the balloons didn't pop. Did the air come out of the balloons?
