Dear ICRT Listeners:

Sadly, we must announce the loss of an ICRT original.  For nearly three decades, Mike Woodward used his special gifts for humor, storytelling and professionalism to serve Taiwan audiences.  

He first arrived in Taiwan over three decades, via Hawaii, but originally hailing from Ohio.   Mike made his mark both on ICRT and the Taiwan airwaves not just as a DJ and news anchor, but also as a production script writer and producer. He had a kind word and a smile for colleagues and friends. He will be missed.

Mike was also a comedian, which was always evident in his writing, and his on-air antics.  No matter if it was copy for an ICRT promo, or a “kicker” at the end of a newscast, those lightheaded stories that bring a chuckle to listeners.  He was an accomplished impersonator too, joining the DJs for humorous interludes with Mike impersonating world-famous celebrities and world leaders, from Jimmy Carter to the Iron Lady herself, Margaret Thatcher.  

One of Mike’s most noteworthy accomplishments at ICRT was bringing to air one of China’s most famous novels, Dream of the Red Chamber.  Working from an English translation, Mike meticulously oversaw the production of the series, which was broadcast in short segments for several months daily on ICRT.  This production included staff from almost every corner of ICRT,  adding their voices to a compelling and entertaining retelling of the story of Jia Baoyu and more!

Mike, we’ll miss your warm personality and comedic command of the English language.
