Doc Casey (1952 - 2018)

Dear ICRT Listeners:

ICRT has lost a dear friend.  Doc Casey, who served as an ICRT News Anchor, Assistant News Director, and ICRT General Manager, passed away on Monday May 28th, at the age of 66.

Doc worked at ICRT from 1989 to 2002, during which time his deep, reassuring and steady voice greeted listeners as they tuned in to ICRT newscasts.  Even today, you can hear his voice on some ICRT promos and jingles.

We remember Doc for his commitment to the job, and being able to cover any radio emergency, be it a missing DJ or news anchor.  He rushed to the station after the 9-11 attacks to go live with news reports -- quickly gleaning information from the news wires and sharing it with our audience in real-time.

He made his mark once again a few weeks later after Typhoon Nari ravaged Taiwan, leaving much of Taipei inundated with floodwaters over a meter deep, and flooded the Taipei MRT system, which was disabled for six months.  The ICRT studios, like much of Taipei, were left without power.  But Doc saved the day, rushing to our transmitter site on Yangmingshan, with CD player and mic in tow.  He plugged these directly into our transmitter, and within moments, we were broadcasting live again to our audience across Taiwan.

We admired Doc for his love of his favorite singer, Frank Sinatra. After the crooner passed away in 1998, he personally produced and hosted a tribute to this most influential American musical artist of the 20th century.

Doc started his radio career in Macon, Georgia, going on to work with the US Armed Forces Radio and Television Service in Thailand, followed by jobs in Alaska and Hawaii before moving to Taiwan in the late 80s.  After leaving ICRT in 2002, Doc spent four years working at MET 107 in Bangkok, Thailand, before retiring to the USA.

To our friend and colleague, we will miss you always.

Doc’s family has posted this on-line memorial for him. Please give it a visit and leave a memory to Doc:
