The Central Weather Administration says the next wave of the northeast monsoon is expected to arrive on Monday, sending temperatures in parts of northern Taiwan down to as low as 16 degrees
It said the wave will start to weaken on Thursday.
In addition to lower temperatures, the northeast monsoon is bringing moisture, with the possibility of heavy rain in the northeast today.
A heavy rain advisory has been issued for mountainous areas of Yilan, where accumulated rainfall could exceed 200 millimeters within 24 hours or 100 mm within three hours.
Meanwhile, the CWA says a tropical depression currently around Guam is likely to intensify into a tropical storm today or tomorrow.
Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said the system could strengthen into a typhoon on Monday before making a U-turn and moving east-northeast, posing no threat to Taiwan.
