A transport ministry survey shows an increase in the overall number of taxis in Taiwan ... as well as an increase in the take-home pay of drivers.
According to the biannual survey, there were nearly 93,000 taxis nationwide last year, up 1.2 percent compared with 2023.
Among them, so called multi-class taxis increased to around 36,000 or 40 percent of all taxis. That's a 34 percent increase since 2023.
Multi-class taxis include Ubers. They're only allowed to respond to app requests and aren't allowed to pick up streetside hailers. They also aren't allowed to be yellow.
According to the ministry, nearly 80 percent of passengers book taxi trips via apps, highlighting the digital transformation of the sector.
The average net income of full-time taxi drivers was around 32,500 NT in 2025, up 20 percent compared with 2023.
