Keelung mayor George Hsieh (謝國樑) says the city government will provide generous subsidies for people whose homes and vehicles were damaged in flooding that occurred yesterday.
Details of the subsidy measures will be announced later this month, but in principle, homeowners will receive between 10,000 and 30,000 NT per household, depending on the depth of floodwaters.
This is on par with compensation offered in a previous flooding incident. In addition, Hsieh said subsidies for owners of cars and motorcycles will be increased to reflect actual problems faced by Keelung residents.
The mayor also noted that more heavy rain is expected, and it would take some time to deal with the effects of the latest flood.
He also expressed gratitude to Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕), who dispatched pumps and other equipment to Keelung upon discovering that the city had insufficient equipment at its disposal.
