Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung has hit back at Chinese warnings regarding
Taiwan’s participation in the Pacific Islands Forum summit in Palau.
Lin attended the opening ceremony of the 55th PIF Leaders Meeting, which
began in the capital Koror on Sunday and runs through Friday.
Speaking to reporters, the minister rejected threats from China's Pacific
envoy, emphasizing that Taiwan has been an active development partner in the
region for over three decades.
Palauan President Surangel Whipps Jr. stated that Beijing retaliated against
Palau by discouraging Chinese tourists from visiting the island nation.
Lin dismissed China’s safety claims against Palau and pledged that Taiwan
will actively promote travel to the Pacific nation to offset Beijing's
economic pressure.
