Lai celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day, welcomes inclusion of Siraya people

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) marked Indigenous Peoples' Day today by
congratulating the Siraya people upon their official recognition as Taiwan's
17th indigenous group.

Lai said obtaining recognition for the Siraya has long been a concern for
him, noting that when he was Tainan mayor, his government provided legal
support for the group's ethnic registration ... with his support continuing
as vice president.

The president said the government still has work to do to create a more
diverse and equitable space for the development of ethnic groups and
vouchsafe the dignity of all Taiwan's residents.
