The Taiwan People's Party has sent its first official delegation to China since the party was founded in 2019, with a four-day visit to Shanghai focused on youth exchanges and dialogue.
The delegation, led by Central Review Committee Chairman Lee Wei-hwa, departed Tuesday comprising three party staff members and five members of the party's youth wing.
The delegation will visit economic and historical sites, technology companies and youth entrepreneurship hubs in Shanghai, and hold discussions with students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council said it supports healthy and orderly cross-strait exchanges based on dignity, parity and the absence of political preconditions, but also warned the delegation against echoing Chinese Communist Party or united front rhetoric, saying doing so would send misleading signals to the international community.
The council also urged Beijing to engage not only with Taiwan's opposition parties but also with its democratically elected government.
